yo OP, regardless of the talk of elitism in this thread, I'm glad you're interested in Jandek. have you listened to a few of his songs by now? depending on what you thought of them I could probably say what album you might like to start out with. He can sound kind of monotonous at first, but once you get into him... god damn, you don't need any other music

He's pretty consistent, so you can go in chronological order if you like. His second album, Six and Six (Ready For The House is his first) sounds a bit like Ready For The House, so if you want some variety I'd skip to his third (Later On) or fourth (Chair Beside A Window). They're both good and sound pretty similar (same tuning). I think I prefer Chair Beside A Window by a hair.

Thinking more about this thread, in a way, there's music to listen to that appeals specifically to the desire for isolation and the rejection of conformity- outsider music, like Jandek. Huge variety of styles, and of course some of it is gimmicky rather than raw, but you might want to look into it.
