Can we talk about this for a second? Holy shit what a beautiful album. Never gave it the time of day when it came out since I never listened to the antlers before but wow.

Where do I go from here with this band? I've seen some love on /mu/ for hospice of course and attic of the universe.

hospice is closer to that

in the attic of the universe is leagues ahead of both

They don't have a single bad album out. Some are better then others but none are unlistenable. Their EP Undersea is pretty close to Familiars.

My favorite album of theirs is Burst Apart, but check out any of their albums really.

I like Hospice
Is Familiars worth a listen?

Yes. I think palace and parade are by far the best the album has to offer.

I seriously just use The Antlers as feel inducers.
Spacious, drifting, vacant, floating, tenuously hanging onto the world before you fall into the night and stars - In The Attic

Cold, haunting, lonesome, despondent, walking into the biting cold wind meeting nobody and not wanting to - Cold War EP

Slow, driving, rocking back and forth alone on the floor waiting for her to call you back, rhythmic - Burst Apart

Sinking to the bottom of the ocean as you are falling asleep - Undersea EP

Folky, leaving someone and feeling better than you did with them, watching the sunset strike a burnt glow across the grass as leaves fall and shatter underfoot - Uprooted

Frail, vulnerable, dark, showing the most vulnerable part of yourself to someone who is already broken and loving them despite the pain - New York Hospitals EP

Emotional Destruction, sickness, cold, alone, haunting, nothing I can say that isn't exactly what Silberman was going for in the album, first album to actually make me choked up - Hospice

Oh, forgot,
Light and dark, very city-like (horns), naive, wanting to change who you have turned into and go back to when you were young and you loved each other - familiars

the opening song was great, but I don't understand the love for familiars. Sure it was okay, but there wasn't much variety, and it felt longwinded. The horns had some nice parts, but I wish they took bigger risks.

hospice = attic>burst apart>undersea>familiars

The closet they ever came to living up to Hospice is In the Attic of the Universe.

familiars nails the dreamy hazy atmosphere that was hinted at in undersea not really and its really engrossing. its become my favorite antlers album

>Variety is definitely not the group's forte: they take one elementary idea and repeat it over and over again for almost one hour, albeit with elegance and dignity. Romantic pop muzak found its new champions; but, after spending a whole hour listening to this trumpet wailing over ever single melody, you'll be paranoid about trumpets.

Why does everyone ignore uprooted?
Stonethrower is one of their best songs.

So much this. It's really a grower, in the beginning I didn't really find it very interesting and a little bland, but with every listen it just became more and more enjoyable. It's an essential album for falling asleep or just chilling with a hot drink.
