I've browsed /mu/ for years and no one talks about this. Why is that?

Because it was very popular with NYC heroin junkies in the early 90s. Their whole fanbase is dead, or over it.
Plus, it never got any love from P4K or the "cool" webzines out there. That seems to matter when it comes down to /mu/ popularity,if you catch my drift.
