I play an Ibanez AS 80 and inherited my Grandpa's Gibson J45, Tend to never play it though and only bring it out on Family Gatherings and stuff. I think its from 56? Original hard case with pink interior to boot.

Also have an ESP Viper 256p that I wanna get rid of, and a Fender FA 125S That I actually do play regularly.

Would love to get another Ibanez though currently my Favorite.

I've been playing for about 3 years now and listen to alot of Classic Rock and Punk. Jack White, Tony Iommi, and Johnny Ramone are some of the guitarists that I really like and try to cover, with vary degrees of success.

>> No.53743601

I've heard the opposite and seen the results of storing without tension. It's okay for a few months but can involve surgery if stored like that for years. More important is to put on elixers if you're going to store it, especially in a case, so you don't rust out the frets from contact with shit strings.

>> No.53743636

>>53743601
Nah, it's best to remove the tension from acoustics. not only for the neck, but for the soundboard.

All that tension continually pulling on the board can warp it, especially if stored for years.

>> No.53743646

>>53743601
If you store with tension on for years and years the bridge will eventually pull off.
The neck can develop a bit of a bow too.
Unless the place you're storing the untensioned guitar is constantly changing in temperature and humidity then you won't ever see any issues develop.
Reasonable temp and humidity is about 70F and 45% humidity.

A lot of the first few years I spent with my guitar I spent chugging through a bunch of theory, songs and exercises at my computer because it was really easy to run out of shit to do. The electric guitar/guitarists are funny. What kind of guitar is Jimmy Page playing on Tea For One? This is all my gear. Not that great, expensive or eccentric. It's funny cause my amp actually sounds a lot better than most of my friend's marshall's.

I would absolutely love to get better recording devices. I only use a Shure SM57 and crappy Audacity.

Have been playing for 5 years.

I don't have a favorite guitar brand, and I don't have a favorite guitarist.

I want to get some recording and signing classes, and start making music. I'm really working on making a tribute album for a band.

Anything wired to the back of a pot is called a ground. These are simply to complete your circuit (returning current to the pickups).

Red signal out is wired directly to a volume lug, and then leaves from the center wiper lug. The third volume lug is grounded to the pot casing to form a voltage divider.

A good guitarist can play the shit as written and make it sound the way it should in the least amount of time as possible. If all you can do is read sheet music and and comp chords, but play them with precision, you're better than anyone with some pothead vision who can't keep up with the beat.

The forte of the guitar is harmony, and being able to make something that works for the melody is the key skill. I'm not saying lead is secondary or wasted, but should be based in the knowledge of harmony that comes with the instrument. One should know their place and exceed elsewhere because of their mastery of it.

I don't really like fucking around with my gear too much so at this point I'm pretty much solid state for life. With tube amps you have to worry about changing tubes, getting them properly rebiased etc..I have an amp that's going to cost me $600 to get sounding exactly how it did because it needs a new transformer+Filter Caps+ NOS tubes. It's a pain in the ass.

If you want a neutral amp solid state is the way to go.

I have a mij HM-2 and am obsessed with Trap Them and Converge. You can find them cheap though. I got mine for 60 on guitar center used. Try that and craigslist and you can get a mij for 60 easily. And having had the hm-2, it's mostly unusable. It can sound good, but it's so hard to dial in the right combination on 4 fucking tone knobs. With the hm-2 at least it's easy to very slightly nudge both tone knobs when they are almost all the way up and just make very slight adjustments to your liking. With the metal zone, you're just making fucking bee sounds. Although to be fair, I'm pretty sure Kurt uses a metal-zone a lot, so who knows.

It's just that at the time I didn't know much about Jazzmasters and thought that the fact that it wasn't a traditional jazzmaster bridge and the basswood body meant this was a subpar model. Worse than the traditional MIJ Jazzmasters and much worse than a MIA, which has been my goal for so long. I was also misled by PGS to believe the pickups were more similar to P90s than JM pickups (because they fucking called it P90s), which was not the case and they were wrong.

But nowadays they fetch $1,400 and the guy was asking something like $600. And this is Brazil where everything costs twice as much.

I've made some pretty great purchases over the years (pic related) but this is one of the fuck-ups that will haunt me forever. I feel sad thinking about it.

So does your vocals, part of your drums and often your bass.

Producers for most styles scoop mids because it better separates everything and makes the guitar sound better in the mix.

The problem is that some, especially inexperienced metal players/producers, go overboard with it and almost remove all the mids.

Yeah, it's something really easy to notice. When I'm playing by myself, I'm always with my mids boosted because it sounds fucking good.

The minute I try the same in a mix context it sounds terrible and scooping the mids fixes it by bringing balance and harmony between the instruments. You want everything to occupy their own space and sound good together in a mix. Boosting the mids in that scenario will turn the focus of everything to the guitar and kill absolutely everything else, especially vocals that are most often in the same frequency spectrum.

The only occasion where boosting your mids sounds good in a band/mix is when you have a solo, precisely because you want the focus on the guitar.

Started a thread earlier, no responses, so I'll post this here for some help.

Most of my songs I write are usually some form of finger style or basic open chords (G, C, D etc...) and some messing around on scales. They're basic but they're just folky/bedroom stuff for the most part.

What I need help with though is how to write more "rock" or heavier types of guitar playing. Maybe someone could link me somewhere with some interesting chords I could look at or something because I'm clueless other than some power chords. I just want to play something that I could have drums make sense with. Maybe a different tuning I could try (other than drop d). A bit more upbeat and energetic would be nice too.

Power chords are pretty much just it, or barred Emaj type chords played up and down the neck. Anything much fancier starts to sound like shit under the distortion of heavier styles. Maybe try some simple dyads.

Palm muting and muting power chords with your fingering hand in different rhythms goes a long way.
