Often compared to Waylon Jennings[23] and the Outlaw Country genre of country music,[24] Simpson acknowledges the compliment but as Shooter Jennings says: "Sturgill isn't imitating at all, and he sounds like my favorite era of my dad, the Seventies, when he would sing quieter and more conversational. It does actually! Back when I was in Highschool, I used to work for a country radio station as a DJ in my home town. I fucking hated country.

After working for a while, I got to host "Classic Country Sunday". I really enjoyed working the show because I got to pick the setlist and take requests from all the old folks who would call in and request the same songs everytime.

Either way, I was suprised at how great off a genre Country Western was. It cared about the plight of the working man, addiction, reconciling a shitty world with God, and many other great topics.

Start with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Elvis's Gospel stuff.

I saw tim mcgraw at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw Babak trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

And then he fucked my wife.

Bob was actually a big fan of Townes as well.

>According to Susanna Clark, Van Zandt turned down repeated invitations to write with Bob Dylan.[31] Dylan was reportedly a "big fan" of Townes and claimed to have all of his records; Van Zandt admired Dylan's songs, but didn't care for his celebrity.[31] The two first met during a chance encounter outside a costume shop in the South Congress district of Austin, Texas, on June 21, 1986.[31] According to Johnny Guess, Dylan later arranged another meeting with the songwriter. The Drag in Austin was shut down due to Dylan being in town; Van Zandt drove his motorhome to the cordoned-off area, after which Dylan boarded the vehicle and requested to hear him play several songs.[32]

What makes it "country" is that it has steel guitars all over it and it's lyrics involving tractors or whiskey or girls or working on your truck sung in a drawl.
