Mansons antichrist superstar is bad too. never got why people liked it

It's heavy, well-produced, dark, and witty. The song-writing is pretty solid too. That's probably the main appeal, if you're not really into such music, you will definitely not understand it.

do you have any idea how lame that sounds?

like, maybe get into harder or smarter stuff, like brainbombs or whitehouse respectively?

because it's good.

It has everything:
-banapwamps
-wampanapwams
-and kickass lyrics

seriously though, it has a lot of catchy songs, a real energy, absolutely great, intricate production, very versatile vocals, dramatic pacing, the mandatory ballads, and of course a cohesive storyline filled with interesting commentaries and themes (for a mainstream rock album) and a strong visual identity.

In line with the music videos made for it, it's a lot like a curiosity cabinet, it's full of little details and oddities juxtaposed and arranged together in a theatrical manner, I find it fascinating. of course, Trent is behind a lot of it, but the lyrics and visuals are equally rich.

>Heavy
Being heavy is not equal to being good. There are better heavy albums too
>Well Produced
Yep, but if the music doesn't hold up, that doesn't matter. And in my humble opinion, i find it musically boring compared to the type of music manson was influenced by. (Industrial, Noise rock).
>Dark
Same thing as heavy, doesn't mean it's good. Besides, it usually is dark in kinda that cheesey goth way. Never found it to be Heavy or dark as other people describe it.
>Witty righting
Pretty much the only thing about this album aside from the production that perks my interest.

Hi TJ.

I just see it as a Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor side-project. Like Downward Spiral + Arena rock. Reznor is the only reason why that album isn't complete garbage.

>> No.53474297

>>53474178
What do people mean about its energy? Plenty of other rock releases at the time, like Unwound, Jesus Lizard and shellac have better energy.
Absolutely great is subjective
As i have state before, the production is good.
Never was into Mansons vocals
It's pacing is ok, but not amazing.
Ballads are over rated in my opinion,
Its cohesive but that doesn't make it good

Music videos are legit though. Manson should have been in theater or some shit.

And for the love of god, don't be immature and say "Kill yourself" you look like an idiot if you do.

>> No.53474306

I haven't listened to it.

I told you already, The Pale Emperor sounds like the title of a better album.

>> No.53474336

>>53474296
Downward spiral is great, but what makes it great isn't the rock aspect. It's that weird blend of industrial and pop reznor does that makes it good.

Never saw manson as that type of guy

individually, heavy, dark and well-produced aren't the hallmark of quality, but put together, they do make for a nice listen.

It isn't meant to be the heaviest, darkest shit out there, it's supposed to be a kind of over-the-top, grimy and creepy parody of glam rock, where the sassy lisp exhibited by many glam rock vocalists becomes lascivious and obscene, the poppy energy turns into manic, obsessive anger and the self-indulgent pathos turns into disgust and bitterness. The goal isn't to create a mind-bending, horrifying assault of the senses, it's to make you witness the rockstar phenomenon falling apart.

I get what your saying. Call me a prune but I have never been into parody music. Clever lyrics and shit are cool, but parody music is a little dull for me.

Whenever I listen to Manson, all i want to do is switch albums to Big black or Cows or some noise rocky band.

The fuck? When did I ask you to kill yourself?

And anyway, I explained you why I liked it so much, why are you still arguing? I'm not trying to convince you that it's great I'm just explaining you.

Exactly. In Antichrist the poppyness/indutrial mix of Downward Spiral is explored to the maximum, making it a great arena rock record.

>> No.53474603

>>53474495
Never asked me that. But after so much time on being here, i expected your next response to have a kill yourself at the end.

Nothing against you, but it was kind of a reflex. On /mu/ if you disagree with some one, they always hate you for it.

also i was just remarking I never cared for the humor of it. Wouldn't say i was trying to make you feel bad for liking it, just replying why i dont

fuck capatcha literally visual illusions all day and night

Well, it's not entirely parodic, there's also the mystical themes attached to it (which rely on a destructive approach of music) and generally it's a cathartic experience. Not in a "I'm pissed with my parents so I'm gonna listen to angry music" way, but in a tragic way, hence the dramatic pacing. It has to go through several stages to make all the self-disgust and hubris consume themselves.

>> No.53474659

>>53474620
Never saw it as teenage angst. I know manson isn't retarded. I can definitely see that it could be a tragedy in some ways.

Imho manson should stick to painting or do Play writing. I think he would be good at that.

He's been trying to direct a biopic about Lewis Carroll for years now.

This. Manson's fanbase contained a lot of edgy teens (now autistic 30 year olds). Manson has always just been into art and exploring the tenebrous side of life. It just so happens that music was one of his main mediums, and the one he got the most recognized for.

I don't remember what it's called, but he made a trailer for it almost 10 years ago, it's meant to be a surrealist and obscene thing about Carroll's obsessions and psychoses. Since then the project has been in development hell.

Yes. It's somewhat amateurish and very minimal but not bad. His idea was to use only practical effects to make the result creepier so he worked with a stage magician on it.

Of course not. Even Fantano noticed it.

He sounds like he's coming to terms with the fact that he's getting old, so he's trying to go for a goth dandy crooner persona this time.

It's not comparable to the trilogy albums... but it's a cut above anything he's put out in years.
