I like his playing on the few albums of his I've heard. Always cool to see his name pop up on those more obscure European releases. Never heard of Nistico but I'd like to see Sammy Nestico get mentioned more often. He wrote some awesome arrangements. Then again I've never really heard anybody on /mu/ talk about arrangers much at all.

I'm currently listening to vol. 3 of Eric Rasmussen's "School of Tristano" records which is very good.

Listening to this for the first time. I've recently been exploring more of Davis's discog... he was one of the first jazz artists I got into, but there's just so much good stuff.

I've had a pretty thorough experience with each of these records:

Birth of the Cool
'Round About Midnight
Kind of Blue
Sketches of Spain
Miles Smiles (LOVE this one, btw)
In a Silent Way
Bitches Brew

Will probably also check out Jack Johnson later today. What other Davis albums do you recommend, /jazz/?

I highily recommend you listen to Get Up With It. It's one of his most overlooked albums. A lot of people were annoyed by it when it came out, but i love it.

Whoa dude. There are definitely albums that CAN sustain my interest for that long, but that's the longest Davis record I've seen.

Personally, I prefer stuff in the 30min to an 1hr range... I think it's easier to feel out an overall vibe on shorter works, and I'm more likely to revisit them often.

my comment is what all music criticism amounts to. It's an opinion. There's nothing more that can be said. I think it sucks ass. There's no point in expanding on why I think that. Listen for yourself. Maybe you'll like it. It's certainly a pretty unique album in Davis's Catalog. I just think it sucks.

I don't know why I don't like it. I just don't like it. It doesn't tickle my fancy. It's like asking why someone likes cumming. because it feels good. But what about it feels good? idk it just feels really good in my penis when i ejaculate.

So what you're saying is that you're just too lazy and illiterate to discuss any topic beyond surface-level descriptions of sensation?

You can go into a very deep discussion about all the physical, chemical, and emotional aspects that are part of an orgasm and the way that slight variations in any of these aspects causes people to experience sex in different ways.

but you'd rather just leave it at "i like cumming cuz it feels good"

Just got out of a clinic with Dave Scott and his quintet. Very strong avant-garde player, super influenced by KD in everything but vocabulary. Nice guy, too.

A lot of his music sounds like Angelica Sanchez's, if that's any comparison.

It's out already in Europe, comes out on the 10th in the US. Only the 24/96 is out on what.cd. It's kinda too big to upload. I could try dithering it to a v0, but I haven't really done that before with XLD, and I don't trust it that much.
