honestly Donuts requires a trained ear to fully appreciate. not trying to be mr. holier-than-thou patrician here but in order to really "get" Donuts you have to understand the context of the record, how it compares to the rest of Dilla's discography, and the (basically) revolutionary impact it had on the beatmaking scene. you can appreciate the record at a surface level for sure, and most people seem to do so, but there's a depth to the record that hasn't been replicated since.
