>Bio (from RA):
Squarepusher, the performing pseudonym of Tom Jenkinson, is an English electronic music artist signed to Warp Records. He specialises in the electronic music genres of drum and bass, musique concrète (sampled digitally rather than by tape), and acid, albeit with a significant jazz influence.

Jenkinson was born in Chelmsford, Essex, and educated at King Edward VI Grammar School. A self-taught expert-level bass guitar player and drummer, his style of extremely fast, cut-up beats mixed with fusion jazz and interlaced with synth lines and samples has gained him a cult following. He is friends with Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), and his albums have been critically acclaimed for their forward-thinking approach to electronic music.

Jenkinson performs live, playing with a fretless or fretted bass guitar, a laptop, and other hardware.

One of his brothers, Andy Jenkinson, is also a respected recording artist, under the name Ceephax Acid Crew. A third brother, Jonny Jenkinson, also performs and occasionally supports his siblings on tour as a drum and bass DJ.

>Not cared about music (even about mainstream music) [4 years to 1994]
STORIES:
A)The things I saw on tv while watching tv programs and on radio were not insteresting enought to make me care about it or think about searching for better stuff.

B)The fact I didnt had MTV in my house and didn't listened to radio by myself (only listened when friends or someone else around me decided to turn on the radio) reduced my exposure to music.

V

>Mamonas Assasinas (1995)
STORIES:
A)This band was mainstream in this year, saw on tv and liked their songs.

B)I only had exposure to music by tv and friends (that also only had exposure to music by tv and their friends) and sometimes radio, and so mainstream music. I didnt liked the bands from those places enought to make me care about or think about seatching for better stuff or to care about something other than Mamonas Assasinas.

C)Mamonas Assasinas didn't made me start to care about other music, because tv didn't showed enought stuff like this and the few times I listened to radio it played only the same few things, so Mamonas Assasinas was kind of unique to me.

D)The fact I didn't had mtv in my house and didn't listened to radio by myself (only listened when friends around me decided to turn on the radio) reduced my exposure to music and so the chance to listen other things other than Mamonas Assasinas.

B)The things I saw on tv while watching tv programs were still not insteresting enought to make me care about it or think about searching for better stuff.

C)I also didn't had mtv in my house and didn't listened to radio by myself so this reduced my exposure to bands.

>Guns and Roses (2000)
STORIES:
A)One of my classmates used to talk about Guns and Roses and also they played it on school radio sometimes at the lunch time. So, I listened to the songs and liked it.

B)Saw things on tv and radio and didn't liked it enought to care about it.

C)I discovered Guns and Roses, but the others bands in TV and school werent similar to Guns and Roses to make me think about searching more bands.

D)I also still didn't had MTV and didnt listened to radio, other than the school radio (a mainstream radio) so this reduced my exposure to bands.

E)Saw the name doom metal while searching for things about the game Ultimate Doom in on internet. But the amount of websites I found were few ones because of the crappy search engine I used at the time. Also, the brazillians websites I found were crappy, small and had just info. Also I had a crappy internet and it was modem that means I was limited by the amount of time I could use it. So I forgot and stoped to care about those websites in less then 1 week. Also I wanted alot to find stuff about ultimate doom game that make not care too much about those doom metal websites that I was getting in the search result.

B)Saw things on tv and radio and didn't liked it enought to care about it or music and it.

C)The fact I didnt listened to radio (school radio ended) reduced my exposure to music.

D)Started to have mtv in my house in 2002 but watched mostly the non music programs and when it showed some music I didn't liked it.

E)I used to jump from websites to others websites, but they were mostly game websites, meme websites, video websites and other random stuff.

F)Saw the name Atari Teenage Riot somewhere and because of the name I decided to check it, the website had just few samples and I didn't liked those few samples (2 songs I think) I tried.

V

>Rammstein [2005]
STORIES:
A)In 2005 I was looking at random articles on wikipedia, about alot of stuff (not exactly random but jumping from article to other articles).
I saw articles with names like doom metal, industrial metal, black metal and other metal genres and I said WTF are those names. So, I said to myself "I will try to find one artist that I like in each one of those metal genres", I started with power metal, I think, getting the names in the article and trying their songs downloading them and was not able to find one that I liked.
Then I decided to try industrial metal and tried Rammstein that was listed on the article as a industrial band, I liked the songs I got to try, and started to try more Rammstein songs and liked them. I decided to quit this specific quest, and stopped to try more metal bands from other genres.
PS: Rammstein was not mainstream in my country (Brazil).

Mostly electronic music songs I got from ishkur guide and some other songs from the artists that made those songs [2006-2007]
STORIES:
A) Now (in 2006), I was curious about music and continued to check wikipedia articles about music.

B)One day, almost one year after i found the metal genres, I saw the article made to the speedcore sub-genre and it said that this sub-genre had songs with extreme BPM, and had a link to a website called Ishkur Guide to Electronic Music. I saw the guide and said WTF... and after some days using it I said again said to myself, "I will try to find at least one song on each one of those sub-genres I like", and started to try the songs listed there. After many months trying songs I decided to quit this quest (in 2007) because on some sub-genres I didn't liked any of the songs listed there (like speedbass, terrorcore and some techno sub-genres), but I already started to search more about music (read that as looking outside wikipedia and ishkur guide).

C)When I checked industrial part of the guide it opened my mind and IT MADE RAMMSTEIN LOOKS LIKE SHIT.
I stopped listening to Rammstein few months after I saw the guide.

D)Few weeks after I discovered Ishkur Guide I used to say "Wikipedia music articles has some things that contradict themselfs, but fix those things and Wikipedia is ok".
After 2 or 3 months after it I used to say "5% of the wikipedia musical articles are wrong"
After I quit the ishkur guide quest, I used to say "70% of the wikipedia music articles are wrong"
After few months after it and right now I say "just dont use wikipedia to search about music, just dont do it"

E)I discovered last.fm website, but because of the wierd interface at the time I didn't discovered how it worked (why it had some full songs and then songs with only 30 seconds, and why it had so many artists?).

F)Some day in 2006 I decided to recheck some music articles on wikipedia and checked again the doom metal one, the article had a website (www.doom-metal.com) and I decided to check it.
I tried some samples from the artists there and I saw one called Lord Grief, his song were like some of the songs on ultimate doom game that I liked. And I said "wow doom metal sounds like some ultimate doom game songs, cool, need to check more about it" I also saw the artist Sunn o))) and the sample there was the song The Gates Of Ballard that also reminded me of some ultimate doom songs . I continued to check but almost everything I checked was traditional doom metal (I didn't new that the most of the stuff I were trying were traditional doom metal).
I didn't liked those songs and decided to check their radio, but it mostly played boring songs (traditional doom metal). So I decided to not care about doom metal. In my mind the lord grief and sunn o))) songs were just exceptions and just few songs were good.

>House, chiptune, doom metal, metal with electronic music influences, atari teenage riot [2008]
STORIES:
A)Many months after the first last.fm visit, I decided to recheck last.fm and made one account and still didnt discoved how it worked mostly because of the wierd UI.

B)Few months after it, I decided to recheck last.fm again and I discovered what it was and how it worked and started to use it.

C) I had the nullsleep song that I discovered and downloaded because of the ishkur quest. And because of my lack of scrobbles (I was just starting last.fm), last.fm gave me alot of chiptune stuff as recommendation and I got and tried some of those chiptune recommendations.

D)Decided to recheck the artist atari teenage riot to remember how his other songs other than the one on ishukr guide were. I listened to the song speed and other songs and decided to try his songs more and liked it.

E)I remembered that I didn't liked many doom metal songs and liked some similar to ultimate doom game songs and decided to check if those similar to ultimate doom game songs by asking on enciclopedia for a doom metal sub-genre and bands similar to those ultimate doom songs. A guy said many bands and I tried them, and liked the band ahab and some songs from other bands.

STORIES:
A)Was visiting 4chan on 2009 and saw a thread that people posted their music folders, one had blue folders and I decided to check the picture. It had folders like clinical ambient and other stuff with similar name. I decided to check what clinical ambient was and found a website that explained about those types of dark ambient ( http://www.pugachov.ru/eem/ambientguide.html ), I decided to check on youtube to see how those dark ambient stuff was and saw this video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6nLKCJdUvk ) that showed some songs to each type of dark ambient that the website explained. Because of the videos, I decided to try every artist listed on the website and on the videos (full discography) and liked many songs and some artists. After 1 year trying it, I saw that I liked, dark drone, ritual ambient, martial ambient.

PS: When something is not on later parts on the chart this means I doenst listen to it anymore.

In grade school I listened to pop radio and especially liked the R&B songs.

In middle school I got into anime and started listening to J-rock as well. "Everything except country and rap phase."

In high school I started listening to classic rock, then entry-level indie. Really liked David Bowie and The Pixies.

In university I started paying attention to /mu/ and got deep into indie pop, post-punk, and New Wave. I also lost my fear of listening to mainstream pop.

Now that I'm finishing university I'm more into techno, house, noise, and ambient, but don't follow music as much as I used to.
