How did /mu/ enjoy this album. In your opinion, did their followup work (room on fire, first impressions of earth, angles) live up to this album?

Room on Fire sounds like the leftovers from Is This It. Almost as good.
FIoE had a bunch of really good songs on it I think, but it was just kind of bloated and inconsistent. Probably my least favourite from them.
I liked Angles a lot. Not sure why no one else does. It was really interesting to me, a bunch of catchy songs and it sounds like what FIoE should've been. Life is Simple in the Moonlight is one of my favourite Strokes songs.

>> No.53100528

I honestly think that the Strokes have remained consistent in quality throughout their discog, except for the second half of First Impressions of Earth.

I agree that Angles was great, as well as Comedown Machine. A lot of older fans didn't like the "new-wave" influences at all, I think they're awesome

Love this album and Room on Fire just as much but i couldnt get into any of the others. like i can actually sit through Is This It and Room on Fire completely which is not easy for me. i just love their vibe on the albums. but when i tried to listen to like Angles for example i just could not get into it.

room on fire is good, but not as a follow up.

FIOE had better songs than ITI and ROF (Ask Me Anything, YOLO, Red Lights, etc..) but wasn't near as cohesive. Angles is too short but had great songs too. CM had All The Time which is the worst song ever, but other than that not too bad. Slow Animals is 10/10

AJJ is easily the worst folkpunk act. i'm sure you faggots like their lyrics or something, but i don't have the patience to listen past 20 seconds of any of their songs.

Sounds like nothing to do with the record, you're just not used to listening to an album the whole way through. Angles is pretty easily digestible, apart from a couple of spots that might be a bit dull.

>>53100645
Those bands pull pretty heavily from the same kinds of influences but they all sound pretty different I think. There's really no harm in giving it a try. You might like it.

Comedown machine isn't that bad, it's experimental but still good

I feel like people sometimes complain that the strokes were too bland but then they write off comedown machine

>> No.53101953

Honestly I think they're one of the most overrated bands of that decade. I've listened to Is This It plenty of times and I can't really see what makes them "special". It's really catchy but it's also really boring and grating to listen to

>Is This It?

7.5/10

Really good, catchy and memorable tunes.

>Room On Fire

8/10

Somehow even better than the first album, with a little bit of experimentation and punk influence.

>First Impressions of Earth

4/10

Some good singles spread about, but it all sounds the same. Sounds like they hit a wall as a band and had no idea how to progress.

>Angles

8/10

Fresh new sound, very forward-thinking for them.

>Comedown Machine

6/10

A few great standout tracks, but overall, they're treading the same ground that they have before.

>> No.53106994

Not trying to be contrarian, I've never understood the appeal of The Strokes. Back when I first hears Is This It it seemed just-okay and today I have the same opinion. In fact the first album I sort of liked by them was Comedown Machine.
