Get Lucky and Shake if Off are both more memorable than Uptown Funk.

Besides in 10 years we will still be talking about Daft Punk and Taylor Swift, unlike Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.

Are you serious, OP? Do you understand how complex and well-written Hey Ya is? It isn't just funky and fun, it's incredibly complex for a pop song and its lyrical contents are extremely sobering and sad, but nobody pays attention to it because the hook is so fucking catchy.

Uptown Funk is shit. Tries to replicate a sound that can't be replicated and Bruno Mars's voice a shit.

The chord progression great though. The deceptive cadence in the chorus is fantastic. Also the song blends a variety of genres seamlessly and the lyrics are fantastic. Read over them again; it doesn't even take much to discover the meaning behind the song.

I don't even like Hey Ya that much but it's a fucking great pop song. Uptown Funk is ass.

They're fantastic for a pop song because it tricks almost all of its listeners. Here are these sad lyrics and then the singer says nobody wants to hear him whine about it they just want to dance. And then the chorus kicks back in, which is easily the most memorable part of the song and almost anybody who grew up in the early 2000s will recognize it immediately.

It's incredibly, for lack of a better word, meta. The song isn't, like, telling a story about a fictional pop star who's just performing for the people in spite of his sadness. The song is literally that. The real life, actual listeners of it are described by the lyrics. It's just very self aware and smartly written for a pop song.

Comparing it to Uptown Funk is a goddamn insult.

Fuck no. Uptown funk is just overdone retro shit, it is nowhere near the pop genius of hey ya. If anything this generations hey ya would be Girls Generation - Gee. Both for being a great pop song and showing how the internet has changed the international scope of pop music. Not dissimilar to how Hey Ya signalled how music would be download driven for years to come.
