xiu xiu is good dude. I hated it the first time I heard it too. But Apistat Commander is a fucking classic dude. Xiu Xiu is one of those bands that after I got into them most other music just didn't sound the same.

I'm a big fan of xiu xiu, but I never really got A Promise, maybe I was looking at it wrong, but the abrasiveness of the record kind of ruined the more emotional moments of the record. Maybe it's cause I was less miserable when I first listened to A Promise in comparison with Knife Play of Angel Guts. I dunno.Maybe I should give it another listen some time. But for real tho Knife Play is the best xiu xiu record, and the vinyl art is fantastic and way better than the standard cover.

To be honest you have to have already heard tons of strange music in order to find something you like in Xiu Xiu. There are definitely more accessible songs (Knife Play is a bit tamer than A Promise), but one of the major points of the project is its inaccessibility to most music lovers. If you wanna attach that to the singer's sexuality that's fine, but there's tons of gay music that's better than Xiu Xiu, like Baths, Matmos, Grizzly Bear, Deerhunter/Atlas Sound (Halcyon Digest is the best album in existence with gay themes).

I don't know how Sad Pony Guerilla Girl, Apistat Commander, 20,000 Deaths, and Blacks can be denied in a catchy factor. Brooklyn Dodgers and Ian Curtis Wishlist are so disturbing and heartbreaking.
