For me, HOOM DIsk 1 is on par with Ys but the rest diminishes quite quickly in quality

Ys is the most immediately rewarding and thematically solid but HOOM has that gorgeous expansiveness
When it comes down to it I think I'd choose Ys over HOOM just because I prefer how her voice sounds on Ys but I don't see any reason to debate which one is the best because they're both equally good, just in different directions if you know what I mean

I honestly don't even know how to approach this. The first disc is indeed fantastic, but it's basically an exposition.

And considering how the album's best tracks, namely California, are not in the first disc, the idea the quality somehow declines seems odd, especially considering how it builds off the lyrics in the first disc in a profound way that allows it to surprise and enlighten the listener about the relationship discovered, and also includes the significant character development in the lyrics. And musically it's just too expansive to overlook.

Although I too somewhat prefer her voice on Ys, I think her HOoM voice actually fits the tales more, and though I certainly don't agree they're 'equally good' I would definitely agree they're both sublime.

No, Walnut Whales and Yarn & Glue are like 60% songs from MEM so definitely check those out as well as the EP with Ys street band which has a new track. As far as new material goes check youtube for Look and Despair, The Diver's Wife, and two new tracks she played at Pitchfork Fest recently.
