Can we talk about Joanna Newsom? Just started to get into her music and holy shit I had been missing out
I've been meaning to listen to this album but I can't stop staring at her butt
okay
You should watch her tour footage from 2003/2004https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxOrsu-ioQchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=900NIVRmrWc
>tfw Joanna Newson's albums are not on Spotify
This is the comfiest album ever for me. It feels like she's cuddling me and telling me everything's going to be ok.
i constantly listen to emily in the car and sing along but i never got to know any of the other songs
Easily some of my least favorite vocals
Only Skin is literally god
>>52881722god is everything
>>52881666>Using Spotify
>>52881692Even from her other albums? I'd say Emily is the most instantly likable from Ys so I understand though.
>not realizing Have One on Me is a vastly superior albumGranted Only Skin, as a track, is better than most tracks on Have One on Me. But as an album, Have One on Me transcends everything she was able to create in Ys.
>>52882164this anon is right. when you sit with them long enough you realize HOOM is the better album. they are both 10/10s though so comparing at that point is useless
>>52881638Not sure what you're staring at as there are no good pictures.
>>52881722Dubs confirm.
>>52882449that one gif, you know the one
>>52882164For me, HOOM DIsk 1 is on par with Ys but the rest diminishes quite quickly in quality
>>52882449>>52882525Just search inflammatory writ live
>>52882164Ys is the most immediately rewarding and thematically solid but HOOM has that gorgeous expansivenessWhen it comes down to it I think I'd choose Ys over HOOM just because I prefer how her voice sounds on Ys but I don't see any reason to debate which one is the best because they're both equally good, just in different directions if you know what I meanKingfisher is her best song tho
>>52881666>spotify
>>52882588
>>52882449
>>52882697I'm more drawn to her hat in this picture. That's a good hat.
>>52881653wow fuck I've been obsessed with her for a decade and have never seen this
>>52882697Holy good g...
>>52882525Even that one piano gif is shit. I mean I'm not expecting porn preview level shit from a singer, just saying you can't watch that gif for more than 15 secs
>>52882566>diminishes quite quickly in qualityI honestly don't even know how to approach this. The first disc is indeed fantastic, but it's basically an exposition. And considering how the album's best tracks, namely California, are not in the first disc, the idea the quality somehow declines seems odd, especially considering how it builds off the lyrics in the first disc in a profound way that allows it to surprise and enlighten the listener about the relationship discovered, and also includes the significant character development in the lyrics. And musically it's just too expansive to overlook.>>52882593Although I too somewhat prefer her voice on Ys, I think her HOoM voice actually fits the tales more, and though I certainly don't agree they're 'equally good' I would definitely agree they're both sublime.
>>52882786her figure, and the way her ear pokes out through her hair, oh god she's so dreamy
>>52882970I'll grant you that I've only had HOOM for about a month, and Ys took me a while to fully appreciate, so HOOM might just need more time to stir.
>>52882164pretty much my thoughts exactly. I like you.
What should I listen to outside of the 3 LPs? Are the EPs all made up of songs that appear on the LPs?Please, I need more.
>>52881722Bill Callahan on it.Love it.
I've been a J. Newsom fan since high school and I was excited as fuck to see Inherent Vice. I watched it with a few friends and they all fucking hated her voice/character, I felt kind of bad.
>>52881602good timing opi was just getting out of joanna newsomyou can have my seat
>>52884948No, Walnut Whales and Yarn & Glue are like 60% songs from MEM so definitely check those out as well as the EP with Ys street band which has a new track. As far as new material goes check youtube for Look and Despair, The Diver's Wife, and two new tracks she played at Pitchfork Fest recently.
