How to into emo guys?

>> No.52664980

go through a bad break up and discover American Football.
That's how I did it.

That's all there is?

>> No.52665047

>>52664999
Definitely not. American Football is only the beginning IMHO. Check out Rites of Spring and Cap'n Jazz. I've also been digging the most recent Title Fight album recently.

>> No.52665106

Pretend you had a hard life and listen to the front bottoms, listen to the mountain goats and say "well at least my life isn't that hard" and settle at a nice level of cap'n jazz and all the kinsella spinoff bands.

Joan of Arc, The Promise Ring, Make Believe, Owls, Owen, American Football, Ghosts and Vodka

They pretty much made emo

>> No.52665143

only listen to stuff with black and white album covers and the "emocore" tag

>> No.52665153

I dunno, I listened to that American Football record and I didnt like it that much

>> No.52665183

Listen to emo.
Realize that it's legitimately the whiniest-non-issues shit ever.
Grow up.

>> No.52665195

>>52664999
No.
Also listen to Cap'n Jazz, Snowing, TWIABP, Brand New, Mineral, Brave Little Abacus, Empire! Empire!, and the album Pinkerton.

That shit has a lot of breadth and some really good albums. forgot to save it last time I saw it.

It has Indian Summer, Rites of Spring, a lot of bands separated into like 5 "subgenres"

The subset of problems most emo bands talk about is about as small as the ones you described.

My advice: Don't start with Rites of Spring, very few sound like they do.
Start with Indian Summer, like the chaotic emotional breakdown in Angry Son better than the softer parts? Check out Screamo/Skramz.
Like the softer parts? Go on with straight up emo like Moss Icon

Like twinkly guitars? Check out post-emo (SDRE, American football and it's spawn)

Like twinkly guitars AND skramz? Check out soft-skramz like Old Gray and Merchant Ships

Again if anyone has the much newer list, black background please post it. It's by a guy Named Sp__(something)__ I can't remember his name but it was a really good list with a lot of things I haven't listened to yet.
