The one where he yells WRUUUAM WROOOOUL MRRRAA BIIIRR and there's chill music in the background.

heart of saturday night
Nighthawks at the Dinerit was the first one I heard when I was a teenager. i was very into jazz/blues at the time and i rly liked the beatnik-y stylei live in a very small town where most people have to travel and commute to work and there's this diner everyone goes to that has been around forever and it makes me think of it
Real GoneI dunno, I just love the songs so much. The lo-fi aesthetic and grittiness is also perfect. Marc Ribot's guitar playing is on fleek.
Small Change, followed by Blue Valentine
>>52636770>you will never be in an american dinerbecause vegan and shitty job prospects
>I blew the weather vane>Off some old road house>I build a fire in the>Skeleton back seat of an old TuckerIs anyone able to do imagery as good as Tom Waits?
Pic related because I find it's the best combination of his blues-y stuff and his more experimental stuff. It's just generally very listenable.
>>52636307his pupils are huge wonder wat he on wat opposite of dat yellow pill shit??
It's the one I've known the longest (my mum has it on vinyl) so it's the one that introduced me to him. On top of that, it's a brilliant album and is incredibly consistent.
>>52636896Nopehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D0hXew4x1I>the well is full of pennies.
Swordfishtrombones because I'm not a faggot, Bone Machine is a REAAAALLY close second thoughSmall Change, Franks Wild Years, Alice, Orphans and Rain Dogs are all great runners-upMost of his others aren't that good (though they have good moments/songs) but the ones listed above (specifically the top two) are some of my favorite albums ever
>>52636984Ever heard the demos? search "tom waits demo dump" on the archive if not. They're really good, like all his demos are. They're like completely different songs.
>>52636896>>52636987He's able to say so much through imagery without having to say too many words. That pennies line for example. Also this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1372DyU8H8>and I fell down at the derby>and now the night's black as a crow>It was a train that took me away from here>but a train can't bring me homeThat line always kills me. The song is about a guy who's down on his luck and at this point in the song he goes to a race track, presumably because he is broke. The image of him falling down in the dirt in front of everyone when he's already rock bottom is just so strong. Also it's kind of childish, the way that he cries the line. An old man crying like a little kid who fell down and scraped his elbow. That makes it even sadder for me.
>>52637044I have, and I thought they were really cool. The demo version of Please Wake Me Up is especially good.
>>52637247That string of three songs at the end of that album is one of my favorite moments ever and sums up so much of what I love about Waits.
