| >> | No.52596592 >>52591362 Kanye has always been a favorite of mine because of his devotion to his personal feelings. They usually come out brash and without concentration (see any outburst or Yeezus for example.) That's interesting enough just because of how extreme and dramatic he is. I'm very feeling-oriented and pretty sensitive, so I'm usually more tolerant towards his outbursts and confusion. As someone who's balanced the struggle with verbally articulating my feelings through my art, I connect with what he often fails to communicate outside of his music.
However, when he creates interesting perspectives for us to view the circumstances surrounding his feelings and outbursts, I can start to appreciate him less as a person and more as an artist. Pieces like "Blood on the Leaves" are what make him a great artist in my opinion.
This song is subtly built on soul with a guide that knows the ins and outs of good song structure. However, Kanye's melody and improvisation are the key feature here even above a knighted Beatle.
After his mother's death, several break ups and falling outs, and now yet another massive shift in the inevitably ugly Kim divorce, it's hard for me to hear this song and not empathize with his position. A child is really what he needs to keep his faith and sanity at this point. And I'm glad he finds a feeling of sanction, especially through his deceased mother.
I hope this song's approach to musicality and Ye's emotional musings foreshadow the upcoming LP's rumored soul vibe he was once known for, but not because "old Kanye is best Kanye". As a person it's the direction he needs to hold to; hopefully this is the promise of more heartfelt art from our favorite hothead. |
