Are you ready for the return of your favorite dysfunctional lesbian power couple, Sleater-Kinney's new album, and Annie Clark's collaborations with Eno and Byrne?

I don't give a shit about Sleater-Kinney (though they're fine and I'll probably listen to their new album at some point) but yes to the other ones.

Especially the Eno collaboration.

I'm looking forward to the Eno collab too. Apparently John Congleton is producing it though. Don't really want Annie to work with Byrne again.

The Byrne thing apparently has other people on it, it's not just them this time. And I enjoyed LTG even though it wasn't great.

I'm not really knowledgeable about what is actually done by producers. People keep complaining about the production on various albums (and I've seen Congleton complained about in reference to Swans' new album for instance) but I don't really hear much of any problems with that kind of stuff.

I'm sure St. Vincent listens to her own albums so if there was a problem I'd imagine she'd say or do something. At least get away from Congleton if he's the problem. She's done some production stuff herself at points so I imagine she should pick up on problems with it.

It's not so much that he's awful or anything. I just think that Annie is being held back by working with the same producer for every album she records. He produced Actor, Strange Mercy, LTG, St. Vincent, and now the Eno project. He actually influences her music a lot. She could learn and develop more by working with someone else for a change.

I'M EXCITED FOR ANYTHING DAVID BYRNE SOLEY BECAUSE HE IS UNDERRATED AS FUCK

>> No.52526797

According to the credits on her albums, Marry Me was produced by Annie and a couple of her friends and she co-produced Actor and SM along with Congleton and co-produced along with Byrne LTG. S/T was the only one that she didn't seem to do any production work on whatsoever. So it's not like she left (at least until this just released album) everything to him or anything.

I understand what you're saying though. What kind of stuff do producers do though? I genuinely don't know. I think it's kind of weird that Congleton is producing the Eno collab since I imagine Eno himself is experienced at that.

Did you enjoy LTG?

I know Congleton has said that the when Annie came to him with songs for s/t it was all on acoustic guitar and he was largely responsible for what happened after that. I'm assuming that's why there was such a shift in Annie's sound between Actor & SM.

If you listen to the Anna Calvi album he produced, the track "Piece By Piece" ended up sounding just like a St. Vincent song too.

>>52526899
I have a hard time believing he has so much control that he single handedly can change how shit sounds. The thing with the acoustic guitar just sounds like how she writes music. Actor was mostly written in Garage Band for instance.

>>52527011
The way he explained it is that they work everything out together to build the rest of the song. But he does have a lot of influence.

>> No.52527187

>>52527127
Yeah I'm sure he does have an influence but the way that you worded it she just gave him what she had and he does everything else.

Who do you think would be a good producer for her? She seems to like what Congleton does since she keeps sticking with him.

>> No.52527221

>>52527187
I'd like to hear what she could do with Albini. She knows him and Congleton has worked with him, so it seems plausible.

his voice has aged but I still enjoyed it

Fav tracks? The only one I really enjoy is "The Forest Awakes"

Wonder if there's a way to tell her she should try someone else besides Congleton for her new solo album.

>>52527254
I'm one of the guys arguing about Congleton in here. Ice Age and Lightening are my favorites. Though I like the remix of Lightening better because the original is too slow. The Forest Awakes, Lazarus, and Weekend in the Dust are also cool. Check out the Album de la Semaine recording of their concert that's on Rutracker. The live show is pretty cool.

I enjoyed the S-K album. It's not amazing, but it's pretty good for a band who had been on hiatus for so long. Is anyone else going to see them on tour?

>> No.52527348

>>52527298
I'll be seeing both of them again soon, but I'd never tell them straight up that they should stop working together. Lol.

I do like Lightning also.

Tell them. Go up and punch Congleton in the face and call him a faggot and whisk Annie away to a world of better production.

They have been working together for nearly a decade. I don't see him going away any time soon.
