>Psychedelic rock
>Classic Psych (I'm sure theres an essentials chart for this)
Jefferson Airplane,Strawberry Alarm Clock,Love, 13th Floor Elevators, Pink Floyd, The Zombies, Yes, Soft Machine, the United States of America,Silver Apples, The Spoils of War, The Seeds, Roky Erickson, Pentangle, The Orkustra,Les Rallizes Denudés, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Tomorrow

there's too much new psych for you to listen to but i'll give you the essentials IMO
>Nu psych
Flaming Lips, Tame Impala, Hookworms, Wytches, Broadcast, MMoss, Morgan Delt, Melody's Echo Chamber, Temples,

also listen to the Nuggets compilations for more obscure psych, you can dig after that
The other guy recommended boredoms and they're cool but really experimental, i'll try and find you the essential albums chart if you like
>Post- Hardcore
Refused,Rites of Spring, Fugazi, The dismemberment plan, The Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Big Black, Scratch Acid, Flipper, Drive Like Jehu, At the drive in,Hot Snakes

>Jazz Rock
Steely Dan, Morphine, Weather Report, Soft Machine, Mahavishnu orchestra, santana, depends on how jazzy you wanna go tbh

>>52346484
Stan Getz, Astrid gilberto, jaoa gilberto, gal costa and i'm pretty sure quincy jones did a bossa nova album

there are literally no good bands in this genre

>> No.52346792

>>52346686
Not really. Cynic and Atheist are pretty influential in terms of proggy/experimental death metal.
diSEMBOWELMENT's Transcendence into the Peripheral may be one of the first "Atmospheric" death metal albums out there and probably the most important death-doom album.

Gorguts is really influential in avant-death/tech-death but they're also very hard to get into. Obscura is the "Trout Mask Replica" of metal.

also, I was tired and I meant to type in Cynic - Focused, not traced in air.

>> No.52346799

>>52346748
yeah the cramps, they did a few surf covers in their time
for me its the Guitars, the jangly spring reverb and the reverby drums, that does spill into a lot of other genre areas though so keep an ear out

tbh my advice is to listen to some of the bands i've said and keep digging if you like them, you'll get an ear for it

Yeah, check out Disembowelment. Transcendence into the Peripheral may be one of the heaviest albums out there, but also one of the only metal albums I'd call beautiful without feeling like an autistic cheesemaster.

Yeah, really it's all garage rock. I love the Santo and Johnny take on it too. Plenty of reverb, plenty of bends, too good. Perfect for lying back in the hammock.

psych dude again, found the chart
this is just 60''s though so do whatever with it
it's missing the 13th floor elevates but that's /mu/ for you
if i were you i'd start with, cream, the doors, Love, pink floyd and 13th floor elevators to give you a rounded feel
>>52346885
a few, the cramps dabbled with that surf sound a lot tbh, i can't remember on the spot if they did any straight surf songs but they copied the sound really well in areas, a lot of rockabilly and rock and roll acts did, i could tell you some if you like but you asked for straight surf
pretty good chart though mang, v. surfy

Listen to this man. Here are some personal surf recommendations of mine, not that I am anyone special or anything, but here is some stuff that I dont really see posted here a lot
The Vulcanos- instrumental surf rock from Argentina. Has a very beachy feel to it https://scatterrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-vulcanos-meet-the-vulcanos-srcd031

The Escatones - surf rock form Texas. Not as beachy as The Vulcanos, but its still very surfy. I also really like the vocals
https://funraiserrecords.bandcamp.com/album/slow-down-jackson

Surfonica - More surf from Argintina. This very short release is 4 covers of other songs you may or may not have heard of before
https://surfonica.bandcamp.com/album/tales-from-the-sea-of-istanbul-ep

Also, my local radio station has a Surf Rock show on mondays from 4-6PM. Check it out if you would like
