>>52251331that's a pity. I love hip hop and I think RTJ are one of the worst groups to become popular along with OVO crew. Consistently bland and non-adventurous. Lyrics that don't stick, though the wordplay is commendable sometimes, usually kind of lame and uninspiring. The beats are really decent on the first couple listens, but are not rewarding on repeated listens. I used to enjoy RTJ1 but after a couple weeks I was finding it to be terribly boring. RTJ2 came out and did not change that opinion. I'm not a fan of the production nor the sparse experimentation that they do try. It's just hard for me to enjoy it because it seems to be cliche and thinly veiled in some sort of pretension like they're doing anything better than anyone else in their genre when they're doing the same shit just with slightly varied beats.
Not incredibly similar, but I find myself always listening to them one after another

Though El-P has produced and released some very exceptional hip hop albums across the years, RTJ and RTJ2 are not among those. I believe they are overrated. The comparison to OVO was really because of the people I talk to semi-weekly seem to find both of the groups to be at the forefront of contemporary hip hop when I believe that they are generally average.
