They are solely responsible for COMPLETELY snuffing out one of the largest and most renowned DIY music scenes IN THE WORLD. 285 Kent, DBA, and Glasslands are all gone because of Vice. This same publication wastes no time eulogizing the spaces it has brought to a premature end, and capitalizing on their own back-stabbing antics. Williamsburg, Brooklyn's music scene is now dead. FUCK VICE. DO NOT READ NOISEY FOR MUSIC NEWS. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS EVIL ENTITY. http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/6289371/vice-media-forced-out-diy-venues-glasslands-death-by-audio-285-kent
>New YorkAnd nothing of value was lost.
>>51612592>Williamsburg, Brooklyndie hipster scum

>>51612621>I seriously hope you do this for free.
Lol, White Lung played all 3 of these venues numerous times and even played the fucking final show at 285, and their singer writes for noisey. Fuck that.
Holy shit fuck those people
>>51612621>tfw so many industy people on here and you're still not signed
>just now realizing vice are corporate shillsthey're owned by rupert murdoch ffs. people who like vice are the same types that shop at places like american apparel/urban outfitters
i-i like munchies, is that okay.
>http://instagram.com/p/vvJ6ilw6VS/Fuck vice. Fuck vice indeed, Brian :(
>>51612592thank allah for hoboken NJ
It was dead long ago, hipsters killed it
Vice being loathsome pieces of shit is nothing new.
every now and then there is a documentary worth watching by vice, like those from the old days, when vice wasn't corporated as fuckbut if you're still reading vice, let alone noisey, then i honestly have to assume that your iq is 50 max.
>>51612592>285 Kent, DBA, and Glasslands are all gone because of Vice.I'm literally about to fucking cry right now. One great DIY venue around the whole Williamsburg area closing down is one thing, but to have all three of the best DIY venues in that whole area closed down all because of some shitty, hip-as-fuck news media entity is downright fucking appalling.Fuck Vice and every single thing they stand for.
>>51613240>tfw no local distributor for the last couple of yearsi'm ok with this
>>51612904Yeah I stopped using them after Murdoch bought them. A&E also owns part of them now. The content has changed noticeably. Not surprised they'd buy out a place where some of the best DIY venues were in order to be located somewhere they can claim to be culturally relevant at.
Why is vice responsible for the venues closing?
It's interesting to see how much vice has changed/gotten bigger in the last couple of years. I've only know about vice since maybe 2011 and never read their magazine but it's weird that they're partnering with rogers to make a 24 hour news channel and sort of turning into some massive corporation
>>51614501they got popular from their buzzword youtube propaganda videos
both are subsidiaries of fox and it has been documented that they take "bribes" to write about certain things
i like watching their food channel a lot.like a lot a lot.the music one is pretty shilly and isn't really my type of music.maybe if they made a channel devoted to asian music and culture, then i would be more interested
>>51614450There new headquarters is taking the spots
>>51614450Because they're basically buying out the same warehouse complex that literally housed all three of the forementioned DIY venues and using that as their own headquarters in Williamsburg, all for the sake of gaining hipster-cred.
>>51614501>they're partnering with rogers to make a 24 hour news channel and sort of turning into some massive corporationSeriously ? I liked them when I was 16-17, like with the half-witted interviews when they were sucking Karl Lelgarfield's dick and that kind of shit, or with regular people living in shitholes, and also the guy taking about drugs... But yeah, something went wrong since they stopped being facetious elitist hipsters after 2010, and I don't know what to think of it, I mean it went from a guilty pleasure to something full of sensational shit... Or I guess they were wrong since the beginning... I still like the guy talking about psychedelics though...
>>51612621Did this guy seriously write an article about his first day on 4chan?That is embarrassing.
It's a music review website. They get money off of titling articles like "such and such is dead" or "x band is the Fugazi of y genre" and writing hokey sentimental pieces about old bands reuniting or doing a comeback album. It's no different than Pitchfork or Rolling Stone or Alternative Press or whatever.I do love that food channel tho
>>51612621I feel like the dude samefagged that Daft Punk post. No one on here would possibly go "THE BIEBS IS GONNA #REKT BY THE GODS OF MUSIC DIFT PANK"
I can't remember the last time I read a decent article from Vice.Seriously, I can't.The only thing I've ever enjoyed from them is that north korea special.
Also Jesus these articles get posted up like there's a difference between 285 Kent and whatever DIY venue is running down the street from your college. The only difference is that someone famous hasn't taken a dump there yet.
>>51616247I kinda would. It would certainly make OP look like a massive faggot.
I wonder how's dev-chan is taking the loss.
>>/mu/thread/S50674723
>>51616303Probably pretty damn hard considering the fact that he lives right smack in the middle of the Williamsburg area. Not to mention DIIV has done many numerous shows in all of those venues when they first started out as well.
>>51612621>babby's first 4chan threadthis nigga is trying to conduct an interview on /mu/ holy shit

eh, i remember seeing some vice chs tapes that were kinda cool

I liked it when it was just documentaries about crazy shit.
>>51619388Vice and its documentaries were never good. They were literally babby's first edgy NatGeo
As good as those venues were and especially the dudes running them, like Todd P, they kinda ceased to be "DIY" a while ago. Glasslands became a legimate music venue, DBA was semi-legal and 285 became co-opted by Pitchfork and subsequently the entire "indie" buzzword blogosphere bullshit. P4k put on shows there sponsored by like fucking heineken and shit, and made sure all the BNM and their friend's PR pet project buzz bands got to play there, and marketed it all as this pure "DIY", muh secret club attitude that really just totally alienated a whole bunch of people that didn't wanna be a part of that. They did the same to Glasslands and DBA to some extent too. It was getting pretty fucked. But yes, VICE is the absolute worst, fuck them all.
>>51619443>first people to really document in a scratch of life in North Korea from an outside source>babbys first natgeoeven you know that's bullshit.
Sounds like they did nothing at all wrong based on that article
>>51619633this
why does Vice make uneducated liberals so mad?
>>51620424Vice's reader base are uneducated liberals.
So are you people trying to say New York doesn't have enough music venues? Is this seriously a problem over there? Why does this matter ?Also the article makes it pretty clear that these venues were on the way out regardless of Vice's actions, it seems silly to blame them rather than the actual owners of the land
the williamsburg indie scene is/was terrible so who cares
>>51620483I know, its crazy
>Williamsburghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2WwCzaGo9chttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f1KHeJypBchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tz8y2kgFp8
>>51616303>>51616392He said they are playing the NYE show at Glasslands with Unknown Mortal Orchestra. I also believe he did booking at DBA before he was in Diiv.
>>51620499not really in williamsburg anymore no. There is still music hall, but its not near as interesting as the rest and secret project. The three best ones being taken out is kinda big so yea. As for the venues in Manhattan, they are even worse.
>>51619443>>51620204I usually don't really care much for documentaries, so this was the first thing I saw.
>>51620820maybe its just because I am not sentimental, but if there is a market for it surely others will take the place. The article also strongly implies these venues were on the way out regardless of VICE, so anger in that direction seems misplaced
>>51619443Their HBO show is pretty good, and the old North Korea and Liberia docs were pretty interesting
Was anyone at the final DBA show last night? Lightning Bolt absolutely killed it, and afterwards they handed out stacks of Vice for the audience to rip up and throw in the air.
>>51620820I mean, as legit and non-DIY of a music venue Music Hall of Williamsburg is, they still put on some great shows and really know how to book some amazing bands from time to time. The only thing is that MHoW doesn't really book as many eccentric-sounding local bands as DBA, 285, or Glasslands did.
At least Silent Barn is still open. Anyone from /mu/ ever go there?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_n4MROE6OkExtremely relevant video.
>>51612592Avoided them like the plague to begin with. But fuck, this really sucks. Those were some great venues. It's a shame.
isn't Williamsburg a playground for yuppies and normie rich kids now anyway? i thought all the people who were interested in diy/underground music were pushed elsewhere in brooklyn years ago. in ten years all the hipsters and artists will be forced to live in coney island public housing
>tfw I used to see Thou, WITTR, Kayo Dot, and a whole bunch of local noise rock and grindcore/powerviolence bands play in Death By Audio individually for the past couple yearsSeriously, fuck Vice. Not sure if there will ever be another DIY venue in the city as good as DBA was honestly.
>>51621567why do people blame vice rather than the owners of the site? Seems like rather misguided anger
>>51621567Go and write a shit song about it James.
