i'm seriously considering gettin into vinyl but i've also heard that vinyl now is pressed from cd recordings rather than original analog so yes, reissues and new material doesn't sound any difffernent

i get the aesthetic of the big physical vinyl and the dropping of the needle and such, but the different sound is what intrigues me

I'm unsure admittedly, but my copy of CHz sounds wayyyyy different than my digital or cd copy - it's got a much deeper tone to it, and at times things sound wonkier than on the other mediums

well not necessarily every record is pressed from cd. i am pretty conscious that most are, in fact I buy vinyls just because I like them, it's a nice thing to collect (also digipacks mmm i love how they smell)

are you aware that you have no idea what you're talking about? some vinyl pressings sound the same as the cd, some don't. some use the same masters as the cd, some don't. also, are you aware that many bands still record in analog? and that many represses use the analog tapes for the vinyl release?

for example, i'd say the biggest 3 represses of this year were the modest mouse albums, led zeppelin, and deathconsciousness. none of them use the same mix as the cd version (mp3 version in DC's case). also, the loudness war still exists. where cd's are compressed for volume reasons, vinyl is not. that is why many people still buy electronic albums/any digitally recorded album on vinyl.

If a band/label does the repress in-house, usually they will give that info on their site. Repress labels are less easy to track down info for this, but it is in their best interest to use the best quality masters around. Plus given that this is a niche/luxury product market they can charge more for "authentic" reproductions.
All in all, do some research online beforehand if
you have quality doubts, vinyl junkies are good at talking about shit and good pressings.
