I can totally see where you are coming from though, To be honest I DI everything, I don't have any mics, and am pretty much running entirely off a cheap 2 channel interface at the moment.
I think that once I get some SM57s and decent vocal mics, and start recording with real drums it will be a different situation by I'm not sure yet, It's been a number of years since I recorded with real drums.
