i think projects like these work better when most of the work is done on the actual thread. i think first things we should do is start by taking a tally of the individual talents/instruments people possess and then afterward we can discuss the more specific aspects of the collab.

I've got mandolin, banjo, and I'm working with a friend to get electric guitar. It would be awesome if I could work with some /mu/sicians to get a better guitar part, as well as the instruments that i would otherwise have to do with a computer, like bass and drums.

I've got the mandolin parts and general song structure, and I can pull lyrics from any of the umpteen million different interpretations of the song there have been over the years. I don't know shit about writing metal guitar, and I'm still working on how the banjo will fit in. I have a plan for the vocals, too.

Intro
- Mandolin only, plays tune once with clean male voice singing refrain
- mandolin plays tune again, electric guitar, bass, and drums come in for stings
- slide banjo plays tune with electric guitar, guitar riffs in background. Drums and bass play normal rhythm

Verses
- electric guitar, bass, drums continue to play rhythm, throw in mandolin or banjo playing the tune

Chorus
- 2 male voices in harmony sing refrain, mandolin plays tune, electric guitar bass drums rhythm; growl punctuates each line

Instrumental break
- mandolin, banjo, electric guitar each have an instrumental break after refrain

I have the tune, the lyrics, the mandolin and banjo instrumental breaks. I'm dicking around with guitar riffs, but I really don't know what I'm doing and could use some input.

I've also got chord progression (drop dead simple), which can be flexible for instrumental parts. Tomorrow I'll record at least the main vocal track and growls, possible also harmony vocals. I'll try to record banjo and mandolin. These recordings may be delayed as it's possible I'll have to use the equipment alone, and I'm new at it.
