What do you tell people when they ask you to explain the appeal of noise? I tell them when I feel depressed, or upset, or like I'm not all there, a pummeling experience like noise brings me back. Also what noise artists have you been listening to etc.

Reminder that my noise > yours.

Positive opinions are welcome. Negative ones as well, but those are lies.

I probably would do a shit job of explaining it, but I just like it as just a more methodological based form of music/art. Even if you listen to Merzow's Merzbeat (which is less noise as weird shit with samples) you can get a comprehension of this kind of mindset that goes into making noise.

That said though I don't regularly listen to or make noise, though I uploaded something to my soundcloud once that somebody considered to be noise even though that wasn't the intention.

>What do you tell people when they ask you to explain the appeal of noise?

Variety. Concept. Volume. Craft. The ideas behind it. The resources used to create it. The sheer force of it.
It's music that's impossible to remain indifferent towards, regardless of whether you love it or loathe it.

The adjective. Description. Short sentences. Small amount of sentence structure. Choppy phrasing. More short sentences.

I've always thought of noise as kind of analogous to absurdist humor. It doesn't require some great intellectual ideology to be enjoyed, it can really just be apretieted for being what it is. It's something bizarre and just radically different from most people perception of music.

They make music for helping you through depression or pain, you don't have to rape your ears with unlistenable garbage just because you had a bad day.

That's no different than cutting yourself, and only edgy emo kids do that. If you appreciate noise for the artistic expression of anti-music, fine, but don't pretend it's anything but a landfill of chalkboard scraping ear rape.

It has no soul, no quality, no worth, nothing that can speak to anyone. Believing it does is the definition of autism.

Autistic people have harder times applying emotional meaning to things that don't immediately have an obvious emotional message.

Shiiit, that's the archaic definition. Do you think fag means gay anymore? Nigger means black person? We haven't used autism to define anything but generic retardation for years now.

>>51058415
Just like serial killers will never be allowed to kill people because they have a need to kill the rest of society doesn't, noise will never be allowed to become actual music because it lacks every single defining trait of music save being audible, explicitly tries to be as anti-music as possible (you can't be music if you're trying to prove how not-music you are), and actively harms your body and soul. Even the harshest of music can still be called music, but noise is nothing but pure ear rape.

PS, 99.9% of the world can tell the difference between music and noise. Why can't you?

For me, there's a mild cathartic element to it, however the main appeal for me is how purely creative and inventive it is. There are no rules at all, it's just completely unhindered experimentation; the appeal for me lies in seeing how people achieve these sounds, hearing the sounds I can make, etc.. I find it appealing and engrossing when I get in a groove, either with my own stuff or at a performance, with the kinds of sounds I like to hear.
