There is a wikipedia article...

"The Fluxus movement... developed its 'anti-art', anti-commercial aesthetics under the leadership of George Maciunas. Fluxus staged a series of festivals in Paris, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London and New York, with avant-garde performances often spilling out into the street. Most of the experimental artists of the period, including Joseph Beuys, Yoko Ono and Nam June Paik, took part in Fluxus events. The movement, which still continues, played an important role in the opening up of definitions of what art can be."

Essentially they just did whatever they wanted and called it art.

>> No.50980471

I don't think much interesting discussion is spawned in these threads. The pyramid was made to annoy people that have never heard of the included composition methods/genres at the top. Most of the methods/genres fall under the umbrella of "modern classical"

The armchair music theorist level of discussion here doesn't do the topics justice and there are far better places to read up on all that.

Occasionally discussion about improvisation, field recordings, minimalism, etc is interesting because the theory behind it isn't quite as demanding.

>music theorist
musicologist is the correct term
ethnomusicologist for someone specializing in traditional musics

I've had some very interesting discussions in these threads, maybe not this one, but several over the last couple of months.

The thing with many of the upper tier styles is that you need a masters degree in composition to fully understand them (as well as specific reading into the styles) At best we're going to get armchair discussion, but that's because there's only 1 musicologist I can think of that frequents /mu/. And he's more into Schenker and Schonberg than contemporary composers

I remember you were a nicer guy Poly.

>> No.50980764

>>50980601
I'm aware that 'music theorist' isn't a term, but 'musicologist' is not what I intended.

Much of the discussion is centered around compositional methods at the expense of cultural significance, perfomance, etc. Posting youtube links to examples of compositional methods isn't exactly discussion, and constantly dismissing things like the fluxus movement out of hand solely based on compositional methods highlights the immature level of 'discussion' that is possible here.
