How do you know it was drone metal? Maybe it was some random noise artist. I can't think of anything like that right now sorry. Terra Tenebrosa and The Body are the closest thing I can think up.

Anyways, the only artist I know that has a mask as their gimmick is Vomir (pic related) but I'm certain that's not exactly what you're looking for. I'm looking at covers I've downloaded/cataloged right now that fit your description, I'll see what I can come up with.
