If you spend time with a really nice classical guitar, pluck some higher single notes with the right hand placed above the sound hole.
The classical guitar is blessed with the ability for overtones to ring out and make the entire guitar sing.
The nylon strings are certainly apart of this along with the very light construction.
As your technique evolves, you learn how to make a not sustain longer, or a chord ring out for a good while.
There are also carbon strings.

Savarez Alliance are what I've got on mine.
I don't particularly like them, but they are loud and do sustain for quite a while. The problem is that they lose tone colour and are really, really bright. Almost like a steel string.

I do however like the Aquila Alabastro strings. They're a pretty good compromise.

Do you guys have any recommendations for a good tube amp?

What i'm looking for:
- loud enough for band practice and pub gigs
- needs power soak so it also sounds nice at bedroom volume
- beefy dirty tones and a good clean sound
- 2+ channels
- effects loop

my budget is around $700/€550

I've seen a few 15w tube amps that seem to fit the bill (not been able to try them out yet), but i'm eager to hear your opinions.

I play a lot of styles, from jazz to math and indie rock, but it doesn't have to do metal tones so a more "classic" sound is fine.

What's most important is that is has the features I mentioned, that the clean channel sounds good (Fenderish) and that the drive channel is thick, lively and responsive. I have pedals to fine tune it further, but my sold state amp is too flat and harsh.

I use the standard set of 9s out of ease, but I've learned recently that the string tension is a little inconsistent with it.

I'm gonna set up an older 6 string to B standard and I bought the following gauges individually. I'll include tensions I calculated for reference. From high to low:

.012p at 13.1 lbs.
.016p at 13.1 lbs. (meant to buy a 17 = 14.7 lbs, but I spaced. the 16 is still the same tension as the high b string, so it should be fine)
.024w at 15.7 lbs.
.032w at 15.8 lbs.
.044w at 16.1 lbs.
.060w at 17.1 lbs (meant to buy a 59 = 16.5 lbs, but the 60 shouldn't be too heavy)

And for comparison, a standard set of 9-42 tuned to E (taken from http://www.jemsite.com/forums/f21/string-tension-charts-73846.html):
E: .009" [PL] = 13.13 pounds
B: .011" [PL] = 11.01 pounds
G: .016" [PL] = 14.68 pounds
D: .024" [NW] = 15.77 pounds
A: .032" [NW] = 15.77 pounds
E: .042" [NW] = 14.77 pounds

Notice how the B and low E strings have noticeably lower tensions.
