Monday morning synth thread.

Topic of the day: VST effects plug-ins

>> No.50256954

As someone who has exclusively used hardware (Minibrute) how do I into VST software?

>> No.50256978

>>50256893
Eventide ultraverb is on sale for another week or two, go grab it it's great.
>>50256954
Get a low-latency audio interface, some VSTs and a host.

Can't I just get FL studio and hook up my Minibrute via USB?

Isn't Ultrareverb a bit cpu heavy since it contains several effects?

I think my next verb will be 2CAudio Breeze. Sounded very lush, warm, organic and epic when I demo'ed it ;^)

>> No.50257209

>>50257072
sure but you're going to get a lot of latency. most onboard sound cards can use something like ASIO4all but it's not ideal.
>>50257106
FerricTDS is my favorite free one
>>50257134
Nah it's not bad, they're individually defeatable too. Having a pre/post switchable delay on your verb is handy too. I love drums hard panned right with delay-fed reverb hard panned left.

>> No.50257247

>>50257209

ASIO4all is exactly what I'm using lol

Can anyone link some good 32bit VST's for ableton? I have synth1 and massive.

If you're looking for instruments I really like LuSH-101 for muh supersaws, but everything by NI is good. The Korg legacy VSTi collection is also a super underappreciated gem.

So I started constructing the case for my modular /mu/, from now on ill be posting updates on that.

Wish me luck.

What format and how big is the case?

>>50258658

Synthesizer.com and a 1x16 modular I'm making out of Pine (I'm cheap as fuck) so it's 36" by 10" roughly.

I'm going to stain it a nice cherry color and do a poly finish, hopefully it'll look nice, I wanted to use Oak but at ~15$ a foot there was no fucking way.

Nice, what modules do you have in mind? I strongly suggest the Q118 instrument interface, I use it constantly.

Just to add on, I'm sort of just going in steps because of how expensive these things are to put together at once:

>complete case
>get power supply and first oscillator
>get VCA
>get filter
>get envelopes and mixer
>get MIDI interface
>get second oscillator (can be used as an LFO)

I figure with a keyboard interface, two oscillators, a filter, envelopes, and a VCA ill have basically a standard mono synth in a cool modular form that I can actually use.

Then comes the fun or adding more components.

Good plan. Are you doing the entry system plan? It's a good way to save a couple bucks.

Whoops, didn't realize the entry system included a cabinet. Also forgot to clear my name field.

>> No.50258986

>>50258957

Nah, the way I have it figured it'll be even cheaper this way, plus I'm not to crazy about the MIDI interface they use in the entry system, the new modules allow you to have a second gate and pitch output with out using a multiple unit.

>> No.50259023

>>50258986
Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the new midi to CV modules as well.

I have the old midi interface and it sits in my second panel with a broken sample and hold. The microbrute works way better in that regard.

>> No.50259098

>>50259023

I have a mini brute which has both CV and Gate out, so I can use that to control the unit until I add the second module (unless of course I'm using it hard sunk or as an LFO)

I'm planing on getting a Beatstep soon too, which also has CV and Gate out in addition to full MIDI.

I tried the demos, I've used some pretty demanding synthesizers, but this one was pretty head scratchy. I spent too much time on it wondering why something wouldn't make a sound than I did making sounds.
