>>50044880Disagree to an extent, the 00s saw the emo/screamo genre go mainstream; this included bands such as My Chemical Romance, Paramore, Panic! At The Disco, Thursday and Alexisonfire among others. All of which once the 10s came around were either disbanded or had moved on to a different style.

>>50045033Honestly, I don't listen to them. I just posted them in this thread because I remember them being one of the bands that get much radio airtime back then.Also, they were the favorite band of my bassist exgf, she would constantly play Crushcrushcrush in my room every time she would practice its bass parts (using my equipment).The only Paramore song that I listened to many times was Decode and Ignorance because my high school band's vocalist (female) requested these songs for us to cover. I think there was a youtube video of our performance, but that was long lost.tl;dr Paramore is hit & miss

>>50045234>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCyGvGEtOwc [Embed]god damn I would have loved this back in highschool, but honestly I listen to too much noise and other experimental genres to really enjoy such a vanilla rock genre. oh well
>>50040262This is spot on. It goes from beingBeatlesZeppelinGuns N' RosesNirvanaNickleback
>>50042248I was starting highschool in a new country when MCR was getting played constantly on the equivalent of MTV. Something about that fucking song with hospital patient and the marching band and heavy makeup has engrained itself as a definitive part of that experience and listening to it makes me feel all awkward and out of place again. I'm not sure if it's terrible or wonderful.

>>50045799You're thinking of "Welcome to the Black Parade"; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDWgsQhbaqUAt one of the last dances of the year at my high school the DJ offered students to bring in discs of their choosing and they'd play a song or two of our choice. Heh, me being me I brought /that/ album and asked them to play "Welcome to the Black Parade" and "This is How I Disappear"; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSgFCzGBjcgMosh pits ensued in the wake of big things poppin and stronger; good times.>>50045946pic related; your point is invalid.

>>50047075Well that's the thing, the music industry faced massive disruption in the 90s, and once the internet boom happened thereafter I don't think they had much an idea of what to do in terms of marketing over the course of the 00s. s'why services like napster and limewire got so much shit back in the day. With such unbridled access to culture, the internet created superniches that which people could cherrypick whatever song they wanted from a musician or band's discography. Punks and Hip Hop Heads existed only because there was a lack of easy access to other forms of culture. I'd wager that the age of "defining" eras of music went away at the start of the new millenium because the subcultures that normally existed to reinforce them are no longer necessary for their consumption. Why else do you think hipsters exist?
>>50047491>because the subcultures that normally existed to reinforce them are no longer necessary for their consumption.ie, you can just download it on bandcamp or some shit.

Linkin Park is cool for middle school kids. I'm amazed that anyone past that age pays attention to them though - they didn't really move past that my metal thing. They just watered it down

When I think of the 00s the first thing I think of is the media-fabricated rivalry between The Vines and The Hives.From ages 11 (2000) to 13 (2002) my favorite contemporary band was blink-182. At 14 it was Marilyn Manson. Then I moved onto older stuff (not relevant to this thread).I think for most people the most definitive groups for the '00s would be The White Stripes and OutKast, though I feel OutKast had all this potential early on and wasted it by watering everything down.
>>50038816>>50039570>>50039628>>50040516>>50041168>>50042248>>50044389>>50044473>>50044755>>50047041Regardless of what the hipster cunts on /mu/ think, yes these bands are influential and will be dadcore in 30 years. Yes, your precious Bloody Valentine and Death Grips will be practically forgotten by then, like it or not.>>50039501>tfw they will never get the love they deserve ;_;
>>50048623Honestly, I think we need to wait longer than 4 years to tell who's the defining artist of the 00's. Arguably, there really isn't a stand out artist yet. Which rockband has had major commercial success during that time that will be influential? Even as a fan of Jack White, I don't think The White Stripes are that artist.
