It's just so beautiful. Like, Ascent (An Ending) actually makes me cry. usually, I meditate to Ambient. Not this record.

Haivng said that, I use Ain Soph or Sleep Chamber for meditation and there is a gulf between what these artists are trying to achieve.

Top album.

Pic related is smashing for when you're high on opiates, as the album's name might suggest.

When I was a teenager I sent an email to the stars of the lid and they replied. I thought that was really humble of them, as I was just a dumb random kid. Real nice.

Yes. It is just so beautiful. And I'm not trying to be an edgelord here, but I'm very self-centered, I can only usually cry if something has happened to me, I can rarely cry for others.

But this is just so precious. The first Eno record I picked up was The Drop, that was a big mistake, because it actually stopped me from picking up this, On Land and More Music From Films for a very long time.

If it's disquieting, ominous, dissonant, perhaps bass-heavy, it's dark ambient. Raison d'Être or Lustmord are typical dark ambient artists.

If it's more relaxing, "softer" and harmonic, it's ambient. Ambient 1 by Brian Eno isn't dark at all for instance. What I've heard from Stars of the Lid (+ A Winged Victory for the Sullen) wasn't either.

Few more I didn't see:

Last two are recent 2012 releases, but really surprised me - easily two of the best in recent years.

Tone Poetry is to me at least a very natural successor to Aeterna,
featuring a somewhat parallel passage in the track 'Rapture', a kind of dark-night-of-the-soul culmination to the album that Dying God (Suite) does in a noisier way on Aeterna.
