It's just so beautiful. Like, Ascent (An Ending) actually makes me cry. usually, I meditate to Ambient. Not this record.Haivng said that, I use Ain Soph or Sleep Chamber for meditation and there is a gulf between what these artists are trying to achieve.
okkkkkkkkk
>>49816883Yes love this album! Does it actually make you cry?
>>49816839Mine is either picture related or Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain by Mono and World's End Girlfriend.
>>49816873I feel like taking a shot in the dark with this one, I'm intrigued already.
>>49816934Top album. Pic related is smashing for when you're high on opiates, as the album's name might suggest. When I was a teenager I sent an email to the stars of the lid and they replied. I thought that was really humble of them, as I was just a dumb random kid. Real nice.
>>49816928Yes. It is just so beautiful. And I'm not trying to be an edgelord here, but I'm very self-centered, I can only usually cry if something has happened to me, I can rarely cry for others. But this is just so precious. The first Eno record I picked up was The Drop, that was a big mistake, because it actually stopped me from picking up this, On Land and More Music From Films for a very long time.
>>49816960Ooops forgot pic
>>49816958hope u like, bb
>>49816960I haven't heard it on opiates, but I play it for my semi-pleb to good-taste friends when we smoke a lot of weed and I also listened to it after taking 5mg Xanax (first time doing Benzodiazepines) and smoking a few bones of fire. That shit was dope.
>>49816987If I don't, I shall call you a poopypants.:^)
Endless summer by Fennesz is so lovely.
>>49816960Also, that's really cool that they were responsive and supportive of fans. That's refreshing to hear.
>>49817025Yeah it was pretty siiick. Those were the days
Not my fav, but I genuinely enjoyed this
>>49816934This probably, the Requiem for Dying Mothers is gut wrenchingI've been getting into Tim hecker a lot lately. Ravedeath is really good as are his other albums but I think Virgins is a whole new level for him compared to the rest of his discog.
>>49817027What's the name of this? Picture quality is too low to read what it says
the best ambient album ever/thread
>>49817140image search
>>49817140Loscii
>>49817392Cheers reversed the search. Listening now. Lovely
excuse the dadness, but it's amazing.
Criminally overlooked.
Got into this a couple weeks ago. Really amazing.
>>49817476I recognise that label,I think I need to listen to that.
I've been enjoying Drowning in the Sky by Pjusk & Sleep Orchestra a lot recently.http://dronarivm.bandcamp.com/album/drowning-in-the-skyAnd Deep Listening by Pauline Oliveros, Stuart Dempster and Panaiotis is a classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0at5DrXpJj8>>49816839>>49817476I second these.>>49816883This one is very good... until Silver Morning and Deep Blue Day completely ruin the mood for me.>>49817104More lowercase than ambient I think. My favourite Steve Roden releases are The Radio, Stars of Ice and Moss (w/Molly Berg, Olivia Block and Stephen Vitiello).Better yet: The Ear That Was Sold to a Fish by Keith Berry.>>49816886I like Black Swan too. Though I prefer Aeterna, if only for Dying God (Suite)... that finale is breathtaking. Witxes and EUS are also very good.
>>49817465you're definitely insecure, mentioning the "dadness"
vol 1 is okay but 2 is the best
for dark ambient, anyway
>>49818706or maybe I was making a light quip at the fact the artists who made it are involved in projects that are often called dadrock on here? lighten up m8
>>49817476>>49817681I've never heard of the Instinct Ambient series. Is it worth getting into, or are these two just choice cuts in an otherwise average series?
>>49817208ggggreat albumdunno if its actually ambient tho
>>49818706ay, come on..
This
>>49818838>ambient
>>49818679>The Ear That Was Sold to a Fish by Keith BerryUploaded if anyone's interested:http://infraction.bandcamp.com/album/the-ear-that-was-sold-to-a-fishhttp://www73.zippyshare.com/v/41715394/file.html

What is the difference between ambient and dark ambient. All ambient stuff I've ever checked sounded very dark to me.
super original opinion coming through
>>49819040ambient is soothingdark ambient is creepyidk, I'm just making stuff up
>>49819131it's pretty true of most of the genre. the fact that dark ambient is pretty percussive compared to regular ambient, i find is another common difference.
>>49819040If it's disquieting, ominous, dissonant, perhaps bass-heavy, it's dark ambient. Raison d'Être or Lustmord are typical dark ambient artists. If it's more relaxing, "softer" and harmonic, it's ambient. Ambient 1 by Brian Eno isn't dark at all for instance. What I've heard from Stars of the Lid (+ A Winged Victory for the Sullen) wasn't either.>>49819213>dark ambient is pretty percussive compared to regular ambientThat's often the case, but not necessarily.
>>49816839listening to that right now
>>49816883Just listened to Ascent, saved. This is easily my favorite by far. I find December Hunting and Humectez la Mouture to be extremely melancholic.
>>49819509>>49819514huh
>>49819514>>49819509o shit
>>49819514there can only be one
Been listening to lots of Vangelis, Popol Vuh, Robert Rich, Coil, and Hans-Joachim Roedelius' solo stuff recently. Any recs?
http://youtu.be/XFKiGNlLhrY
For those who like some instrumental (piano-based) ambient, as opposed to electronics, this is a must. Indoor Swimming At The Space Station is one of my all-time favourite tracks; it's genuine feel country:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIUnVO3tWfo>>49816934>dat Requiem For Dying Mothers Part 2>dat final part with the sad dog>dat transition and progression through Down 3Never gets old this album - love the way they integrated the field recordings into the mood and overall mix.Few more I didn't see:Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works Volume IISteve Roach - Dreamtime ReturnTangerine Dream - ZeitOlan Mill - PathsMarkus Mehr - inLast two are recent 2012 releases, but really surprised me - easily two of the best in recent years.
>>49818741I don't know yet. I plan to find out.
>Robert RichMathias Grassow & Thomas Weiss (aka Nautic Depths).https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czf2WtZ8ey4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjlIBQCTcd0>CoilCyclobe are really nice if you don't mind some real weirdness. They used to be members of Coil and you can definitely hear the influence.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmjVc2AVnWYIf that's too messed up for you, try :zoviet*france: maybe.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiGjkg3k650>>49819597>Popol VuhRain Drinkers:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3CU77StMuYhttp://raindrinkers.bandcamp.com/http://www62.zippyshare.com/v/90319944/file.htmlI've heard all but two of their releases, I liked everything so far. It's more melancholic than Popol Vuh though.>>49818741>>49819731Beacons by SETI is very good too.
>>49818679Tone Poetry is to me at least a very natural successor to Aeterna, featuring a somewhat parallel passage in the track 'Rapture', a kind of dark-night-of-the-soul culmination to the album that Dying God (Suite) does in a noisier way on Aeterna.
This.
Can I get some recs for ambient techno?Besides the obvious like Boards Of Canada and Aphex Twin.
Does /mu/ like FAX?
Biosphere's great, although I really can't hear any improvements in Substrata's remaster.
Preslav Literary School - La Reflexion Du Tiralso really, really loveJefre Cantu-Ledesma - Bloodstream SermonAloof Proof - Expo Two: Piano TextSuper Minerals - ClustersTuluum Shimmering - The Sky Tree
This might be my favorite.
>>49822586Air I and II are solid. I didn't like Seasons Greetings as much; haven't heard any others yet.
>>49817010I always preferred Black Sea myself. Vaccuum is his best track period.
>>49818752I saw Basinski live once. He looked just like a washed out 80s glam star. He sat at his controls and put slightly varying loops for about an hour with a projection of the moon behind him. I walked out.
>>49823271does the original need any improvements?i dunno i dont think i need anything improved here, its the whole thing.its serene, its icy, its like a melody you hear after you go deaf, its beautiful. i even bought a girl i was with his cd Cirque like 3 years ago lol. another favorite artist of mine is matt hillier <<numerous aliases: ishvara, ishq, elve, colourformhere's a track of him i lovehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9lP-504F8I
>>49823418thats such a damn good album. Seconded.
>>49824907When I saw him last year, my friends and I joked he looked like Jareth the Goblin King.
Genuinely one of my favorites
Here's my top 3, can I get some recs?-Biosphere-Substrata-Tim Hecker-Ravedeath 1972-Loscil-Endless FallsI also like Brian Eno-On Land, Stars of the Lid-Refinement, Coil-Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 1, Haxan Cloak, and Ben Frost
>>49826698>Coil-Musick to Play in the Dark Vol. 1, Haxan Cloak, and Ben FrostBased on these:Raime - Quarter Turns Over A Living LineAlso all their EPs.
>>49826698Only one of these is good. Check out >>49826688
/mu/ has a nice /ambient/ community. What do you guys think of Bass Communion?I think Cenotaph and Ghosts on Magnetic Tape are two of the creepiest albums ever.
>>49818724>Alva Noto will never make another Xerrox albumIt hurts to live
>>49817027this is certainly one of my favourites>>49819698eluvium is pretty cool. static nocturne is my favourite of his. you should check out library tapes if you already haventhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PId1p8qfetc
>>49826815I thought Cenotaph was pretty ok, but I didn't get much of a creepy vibe from it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcQ4Ix22ylAhavent heard this in a whilebrb afloat in space
>>49823418You happen to have a download for the PLS album?
>>49817476fuck yesI liked Terre's ambient over the deep house (still enjoy it tho)
>>49827474Right here!https://mega.co.nz/#!dx8wFZbS!c2sq-24pHL9nFsiyIZX2Jm3SG5xdJ_DVDld-Jyj4RoA
>>49826635hahaha he fucking totally does
>>49823271Multila isn't technically ambient but a lot of the album is very close to indiscernible from it. Great minimal album. It begins as a kind of analog womb, and ends a little like that but the middle track of Huone is lie this simple beat growing outward, branch by branch to create a very natural, monolithic rhythm.
>>49816934p gud
some stuff i have enjoyed the past monthWilliam Basinski - Watermusic, Variations For Piano & Tape, Silent Nightalva noto - InsenCorey Fuller + Tomoyoshi Date, Simon Scott Marcus Fischer, Taylor Deupree - Between
>>49817465It is quite amazing. That guitar melody that sounds vaguely like a cello is one of the most emotive phrases that I have ever heard.
I'm pretty entry level ambient but some I've really connected with areVirgins - Tim Hecker (Saw him live in an old church and it blew my mind. A very spiritual moment)William Basinski - The Disintegration LoopsBrian Eno - Ambient 1.Again, obviously these are the most entry level shit, but I still find them very profound.
