What you're listening to, recs, etc.

Currently trying to reconcile how awesome this record is with the fact that Chick is a Scientologist.

Just ignore it. It has nothing to do with his music.

And Chick Corea is fucking awesome. I saw him live a few years back and it blew my mind.

Yeah you're right. They just really rub me the wrong way I guess.

It always amazes me how good these guys still are. Saw Wayne Shorter Quartet a while back and it was life changing.

The only thing weird about Scientology is that it's new. When you stop to think about it, it's really no more crazy than most other religions, it's just that we're not as used to hearing about it so it sounds batshit insane.

>> No.49794248

>>49794174

I don't think that's really true. Most religions aren't that secretive, haven't been accused of murder/kidnapping/conspiracy, and don't require obscene amounts of money in order to learn their teachings.

it aims to the more free jazz side of post bop, but as everything on the Three blind mice label it's worth a listen

>christianism was considered as a sect comploting against the roman empire though

It's "Christianity", and that's wrong. Christians were primarily targeted because they were the only religion that refused to pay tributes to the Roman gods. Every other religion or cult, despite not believing or worshiping Roman gods, paid tributes to them. Christians didn't, which was a big deal because tributes were a major way to collect money to fund various things within the Empire.

It wasn't much more than an annoyance at first, but after the exponential spread of Christianity throughout the Empire for various reasons, it became an economic threat.

Not to mention the threat to authority some posed by preaching that God was the only true authority and that man cannot trump God. Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and what have you

Thanks a lot, friend. Strangely enough I can only find one YT link in the archive...can't wait to hear what this one's like.

Anyway, bumpu. What's everyone think of Jaki Byard? I happened to pick up The Last from Lennie's by chance at the library, and it's really good. Anyone have any favorites of his?

no problem. I have one more album from Kanai called What, it's also pretty good
as for Jackie Byard I haven't heard anything from him as a leader, but I heard him as a sideman with Mingus and Rivers too, as with Roland Kirk (on Rip, rig & panic) and on pic related. will try to find some of his albums as a leader

Oh damn, he was on FSS? Never knew that actually. Thought his playing was vaguely familiar, though.

Ooo pic sounds like a good one, I like what I've heard from Ervin.

Like Wallace (Wally) Roney Jr, his parents are Wallace Roney and Geri Allen. He plays incredibly when he wants to, I played with him a few times when we were in high school and heard him live with his mother once. Jazz royal families depress me as a musician.
