Actor and Strange Mercy are both GOAT and even though i like how she's incorporating harsher post-punk sounds into her new stuff (Krokodil and Birth In Reverse being two standout tracks for me) it's kind of a bummer that it's going along with this self-conscious posturing where she has to prove how hard she is by orchestrating stage-dives and sitting on some guy's shoulders and stuff like that.

I like the s/t quite a bit, but i'll admit i haven't been playing it non-stop the way i did with her earlier albums. and i've listened to Love This Giant maybe one-and-a-half times

Alright so I've seen her live twice. Once at pitchfork and once in an actual venue.

1.Her shows seem very rehearsed and ingenuine. No matter how "spontaneous" she tries to seem, you can tell she planned that.
2. Ever since she came out with that new album she's had this really lame facade up of being this whimsical fairy girl that no one can tell what to do, it's boring.
3. I've noticed the only people that like her are either grown men who have childish crushes on her (seriously, every other conversation I overheard at these shows was about how "beautiful" she is) or women who want to put up the same false image she has.

It all makes for a very uninspiring performance. She's good at what she does, I loved the actor and strange mercy. I just wish she would cut the bullshit and play music like she used to when she was being her shy introverted self.

Her albums are hit or miss, and she has a lot of good ideas that she ends up executing poorly. For example, "Northern Lights" the way it goes, sounds like it's building up to something. If she had gone with an exploding, big outro to that song, it would have been incredible, but instead she just kind of meanders it to the end. She does this on a lot of her songs too.

She'll start with a good chord progession and have like an amazing first half of a song, and then do something like have a key change or progression that feels really out of place for the song.

Despite all of that, her albums are generally overall pretty good (except that last one, stop trying to be female David Byrne, Annie) and she has a lot of great songs.

Also, she is fucking gorgeous, used to be moreso before the awful hair, but whatevs.

imo she's the epitome of the hipster go to artist kids will praise because they are too cool to like Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift. strange lyrics and sometimes awkward arrangements do not add to the music but to the feeling of weirdness these kids look for in alternative music.
