no vaporwave thread?

what have you guys been listening to lately?

pic related, not sure why but i can't turn it off. so smooth and relaxing (and, if you have a gf, perfect bangin music)

So, Vaporwave is just background/elevator music? Isn't that just light jazz/cafe jazz?

>> No.49166706

>>49166678
that's the source material a lot of the time, but depending on the artist, that can be maintained in some cases or distorted beyond recognition in others.

Revisited Timid Orpheus today. Still shit.

>> No.49166902

The only good vapor album was Far Side Virtual because samples were only uses sporadically, not as a basis or a clutch. Made it more personal than the crap that's just le audacity slowed down.

>>49166902
i think that's one thing FSV does really well. the samples are taken from all over the place, and mixed in a way that almost teases you to remember where they're from. the one that samples the wii menu bgm is a personal favorite

does anyone know any visual artists/websites that fit the corporate, lo-fi/hi-fi vaporwave aesthetic?

you know, like if james ferraro or internet club designed a website. that sort of thing

i don't mean ACTUAL corporate websites, i mean websites made to look corporate.

like the pc music minisites for the singles and eps released

if you are just trying to be dismissive, nobody is forcing you to be here. if you're curious about hearing more of what the genre has to offer, then by all means, stick around!

a good way to get a sense of the type of variety across different artists is through compilations. here's a couple that are really great:

http://fortune500.bandcamp.com/album/the-music-of-the-now-age
artists to look out for here are
情報デスクVIRTUAL, luxury elite, VHS Tapes, and Miami Vice (just my opinion though)

http://dreamcatalogue.bandcamp.com/album/dream-31
artists to look out for here are g h o s t i n g, ライフMIDI, Yuki, and Incorporeal Visions Deluxe (again, just my opinion).

well i'm not sure about vapor artists who have made pages, but something that might interest you is called One Terrabyte of the Kilobyte Age
essentially, before geocities was shut down, these guys backed up 1TB of screenshots of homepages (which is like a literal fuckton) and via their tumblr, have been posting them every day now.
as far as the vaporwave aesthetic is concerned, that's the type of place you'll find raw materials to make your own shit with
http://oneterabyteofkilobyteage.tumblr.com/
learn more about it here:

this just came out yesterday and i'm giving it a listen now. only on the 3rd track, but it's pretty interesting so far. good use of effects without going full retard

what to you is "going full retard"?
also i like renja i liked the rave/dance references on their earlier ep's
https://soundcloud.com/trance-biz/untitled-ii
could i get some feedback on my stuff?

>> No.49173779

>>49173645
"going full retard" i guess would be times where the quality of the production or the overuse of effects gets in the way of enjoying the tracks themselves? i mean i guess that could be the artist's intent, in some cases, but just not my personal taste.

i really love hantasi (new album is great), but if you listen to GAMES MIX, it would work much better if the production were a little sleeker and the effects were made a little less overt

>> No.49173848

>>49173779
i feel u
like the effects overtake the composition/tunes almost
i really like how will went all the way in with effects on redefining the workplace though they nailed that corporate trance vibe

this is nice and relaxing background music, would definitely put on while doing filing and data entry at my mega corporation and staring out what i think is a window but is actually an artificial image created for my pleasure.

no but it's pleasant, albeit not particularly surprising or innovative
