Shoegaze General.

Have fun or something.

I listened to Silver by Starflyer 59 for the first time today. It's heavy and sweet and nice.

>> No.48485251

>Favorite favorite albums?
It's hard to chose my favorite shoegaze album, but I feel Astrobrites Crush, MBV's Loveless, and Tokyo Shoegazers Crystallize are among the best i've listened to so far.
>Favorite favorite bands?
Same as above, Astrobrite, My Bloody Valentine, Tokyo Shoegazer, Whirr, Slowdive, Bethany Curve...
>What have you been listening to recently?
A lot of Coaltar of the Deepers and Blond Redhead
>Shoegaze AOTYs?
Tie between The Unnatural World, Guilty of Everything and Heart
>(Worst) shoegaze AOTYs?
Well, I was really disappointed in the new Lemon's Chair album. It was more of the same with less noise..
>Any upcoming shoegaze you're looking forward to?
Apparently Luminous Orange, Whirr and their split with Nothing, but that's all I can think of right now
>Things you like/dislike about the genre shoegaze?
I dislike how many of the 'essential' artists were the best in shoegaze, but decided to quite the sound early because of what the press believe e.g. Ride, Moose, etc.

>> No.48485594

Who liked this album. This or The Unnatural World is probably my AOTY.

For that one album, i agree, but for the rest of their discography, it's a blend between shoegaze, and dark ambient drone. Really unique, and I'm talking about the album Touched. I feel like they don't self identify with shoegaze

What album did you listen to?

Loveless is essential, but shoegaze can get pretty diverse at times.

What are you looking for? Dreamy, melancholic stuff, or heavily distorted, noisy stuff?

Essential:
Loveless by My Bloody Valentine
Souvlaki by Slowdive
Nowhere by Ride

Shit I like:
Velocity : Design : Comfort by Sweet Trip
You Will Never Know Why by Sweet Trip
Deathconsciousness by Have a Nice Life
Pigment by The Ecstacy of Saint Theresa
In Her Gentle Jaws by The Depreciation Guild
Exploding Head by A Place to Bury Strangers
Around by Whirr
Delaware by Drop Nineteens
Crystallize by Tokyo Shoegazer
Citrus by Asobi Seksu
LSD and the Search for God by LSD and the Search for God

That should keep you busy. Loveless is like the definitive shoegaze album. Also it's /mu/core. Weird how you haven't heard of it on here before.

Hope this helps!

I like them for what they are, but do believe shoegaze is more of a secondary component to their music. Without it they defiantly would lose a lot of their sound, but at the same time I wouldn't classify them as "shoegaze", maybe something like a fusion. Though You Will Never Know Why is a much better album, again the shoegaze influence is pretty small. Pretending is GOAT tho
