How do I stop being a pleb, /mu/?

I tried listening to /mu/-core music but most of it feels very tame, I just don't enjoy. On the other hand I enjoy mainstream shit like Avicii and Coldplay.

Help me /mu/, I want to be part of the cool kids club.

>> No.47822314

Listen to whatever the fuck you want. Listen to something new everyday or as often as possible from lots of different genres to figure out what you like. Rinse and repeat.

Stop coming to /mu/ for one.

>> No.47822337

don't listen to this asshole >>47822314 OP, he wants you to be a pleb

delete all of your pleb music. All of it. Download exclusively mu-core and listen to each album, repeatedly, until you love it. do this until you have the whole mucore ingrained in your brain.

why the hell would anyone do that? why would you purposefully try to be that fake just to fit in with an obscure internet image board? Just enjoy life. The entire point of music is to enjoy it.

Listen to nothing but noise and ambient for the rest of your life
AVOID THE FOLLOWING GENRES AT ALL COST!
Psychedelic, rock, pop, new wave, electronic, Christian hyms, any movie/video game soundtrack, and any related subgenres

>> No.47822476

Listen to stuff like LCD Soundsystem and Sufjan Stevens. Just find the stuff that isn't overly experimental, and over time everything will grow on you.

Three months ago I would have told you that harsh noise isn't music and that it's the dumbest thing ever. However, I have a harsh noise project started now

Probably but that's how a lot of people actually think about music and stuff in general, if not that explicitly.

>> No.47822563

Nobody cares what you like and dislike op. You don't get brownie points in life for having extravagant music taste. A lot of people on /mu/ drone either Fantano or Pitchfork so if anything you're better then them when it comes to taste in music because you at least have your own taste.

tldr: Listen to whatever the fuck you want, don't let other people form your taste.

And after years of coming here
My favorite band is still the Beatles. In fact, getting a broader perspective on music as a whole only allowed me to appreciate Paul and Friends even more

Be prepared to sit down and listen to something with an open mind perhaps at least a few times. If more people were prepared to do this I like to think they might find that they like a lot more alternative music than they might think.

'Plebs' often dismiss music instantly if it isn't catchy, conventional or they haven't already heard it. If you really want to appreciate what different music has to offer then step one is release your mind and stop looking for what you already know.

They have a huge superiority complex and have nothing else in there life that's of any value so they have to resort to something as simple and easy as listening to obscure music to feel better about themselves.

Don't be worried about whether or not you like /mu/core. I personally like most of the albums considered to be /mu/core, but they aren't given that label because of their quality. They're just albums you should be familiar with because they're part of the board culture's background.

It's less about who you listen to and more how you look at music. Are there any genres you can think of that you just assume is 100% worthless? Stop that. That kind of mindset only holds your appreciation of art back. There are genres where 99% of it isn't gonna be well-made, but you should be open to good music coming from anywhere.

Past that, just do this >>47822314 . Even when you've got a developed taste, never stop looking for new shit.

Last.fm has gone downhill a bit, but it's still a very good tool for finding recommendations if you're looking for somewhere to start. Also, sharethreads get a lot of flak, but one of the best ways to find new music is to just go to a sharethread and listen to what people are posting. There are a lot of pretty obscure gems to be found.

That's actually one of the few /mu/-core albums I actually enjoy. Not to the point where I'd listen to it daily, but it's nice. Reminds me of The Beatles but better.

Protip: music enthusiasts aren't usually very cool kids, if you want to do the 2010s cool kid aesthetic as well as possible you should probably just listen to some EDM stuff and a couple of old rock hit singles. Music is not a very cool hobby, even the members of the cool sounding bands are usually pretty nerdy. Obsessing over obscure subgenres and labels isn't the coolest thing to do either.

But luckily you don't have to be cool in life.
