You guys really like this album, huh? I was hoping we could talk about it, because while I don't think it's a bad album by any means, I don't yet understand the attention it gets. Is it the falsetto? The lyrics? The vinyl mastering (which I must say IS pretty fantastic)?

Tell me what you like about it so I can listen for it the next time I give it a spin.

Well, if that's why /mu/ likes it, then so be it, and I guess I just have to disagree simply because I am a hardened fucktard disconnected from his feelings.

I enjoyed listening to it once to get one interpretation and then i went back and listened some more and found myself understanding the 'story' a little bit differently.

any reason anyone likes any album is because of the feelings it gives them.

I was bored on my first listen. Subsequent listens were great. I didn't fully appreciate it until I listened to it while reading through the lyrics. It tells a beautiful melancholy story and the only other albums imo that come close to that kind of story telling are ITAOTS and The Monitor

I now people say that this album is great because of 'the feels'

But what gives you the feels from this album?
Critically, what is it about this album that is sad

I prefer Burst Apart. I don't know why.

Two and Bear on Hospice just annoy me.

It's in general a solid album with a lot of strength in it's lyricism and atmosphere. I feel like the vocals being louder would've made it better. For an album that relies on story they don't make it easy to hear.

I think the barely heard vocals are what make that album special. When you look at it from a further standpoint, the record is based around the love between a dying cancer patient at a hospice and the person taking care of her. They both know that she is going to die, why would your reflection of what's happening be loud, there is nothing new to be heard. There is a stage where they go through this though, and that's Sylvia. I think that's the only time where you hear frustration anywhere in the album, acceptance is all you think about for the rest of the album.
