Shit posted this in the old thread by mistake.

Is there any raw, extremely fast, lo-fi (like Ildjarn and others) black metal except with death vocals or anything that stands out like that?

Been like the other guy tiring of black metal, I listened to both Saor albums and just found them both boring. I like some atmo black like Burzum, Drudkh, Graveland, raw black like Ildjarn, Kaevum, Nordvrede, and some folk black like Temnozor and a couple of Drudkh albums. Dressed in Streams, Vargleide, and Blut aus Nord are relatively recent, extremely good discoveries I've made too. I've had trouble finding metal albums I like lately.

Alright, finally caught one of these threads before it turns into bickering.

I'm looking for some more atmospheric lo-fi black metal like Paysage d'Hiver. I've been listening to the discography for a while and love how hypnotic it becomes.
Basically, anything that's atmospheric, droning, or repetitive with black metal roots.

It doesn't feel like Agalloch at all really.

It's so metal focused that it loses most of the atmosphere, uniqueness, and soundscape their previous stuff had. It's good metal, but it's not that interesting or unique.

Neurosis is also really good, inspired ALOT of bands you here today. Their absolute must own albums are "Through Silver in Blood" and "Times of Grace". Most recently been bumping pic related. As a fan of both BM and crust, i've always kept an eye on them but felt none of their releases were really that consistent- a couple great tracks on each, but lots of forgettable/derivative stuff as well. But I think they've really come into their own on this one- nice diversity of songs, killer production that lets them get away with really basic riffs sometimes because of how fucking heavy it sounds, and better drumming than ever before. Can't wait to see them at DWfest.

What is the one metal album from each subgenre that you would shot to a plen if you were trying to sell them on it as a whole?
Not the best or most definitive, but the most accessible. I'm working on a chart.

among the main styles:

black: Tough call, but I think either Immortal - AtHoW or >>47338037
thrash: Slayer - Reign in Blood
power: Blind Guardian - IFtOS
doom: Solstice - New Dark Age (also a bit folky)
heavy: Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time
death: Dismember - LaEFS
folk: Primordial - TTND
prog: Cormorant - Dwellings

for tech death, i'd think Unquestionable Presence. even my mom likes that album.
for tech thrash, Outer Isolation.

compared to pretty much any power metal album, they're nothing. maybe listening to blind guardian will change your perspective on cheese.

I've never been into power metal cheese or thrash cheese, but I'm also pretty averse to most non-extreme metal anyway.

YES

it's why lost horizon are one of the best bands ever

that and their manifesto. HHH ain't got shit.
>Our wish is to help all those whose existence have gradually turned to complete misery through the interference and affection of extremely negative powers in different shapes, that through, among other things, misleading, corruption, confusion, indoctrination, rottenness, creating of guilt and fear, have poisoned the individual. The ones who are victims of lies, stupidity, primitivism, blindness, limitation, weakness, self-destruction, low self-esteem, goallesness, etcetera. Those who have fallen into the darkest abyss and stumble in darkness.

>We want to help them find the voice of their inner self, which by help of the inner Force will bring the awakening. The awakening will be a new start. A way back, followed by the redintegration. The person will never turn the same, but strengthened by pain - seeing, hearing, feeling, thinking and sensing in a much better way. The dark experiences will turn into an advantage. The bright knowledge will mix with the dark in a perfect composition, the golden combination, the natural balance, harmony and understanding of things, knowledge and strength, the point and the self. To happiness.

>For all of what we are, this means an opportunity to change things on a larger scale. Not only to play our music and hope that people like it, but rather to actually say something with what we do and make people take a step back and open their eyes, thus contributing to a change not only in their lives, but also to the world.

and their band members go by the names Transcendal Protagonist, Cosmic Antagonist, Prenatural Transmogrifyer, Ethereal Magnanimus, Perspicacious Protector and Equilibrian Epicurius
