Hi /mu/ I want to get into some black metal, I don't really listen to metal and don't know where to start.
My favorite genre is post-punk so something along those lines would be nice.

I actually started with Immortal. They're great if you don't mind the video for Call Of The Wintermoon.

Not sure about post-punk esque. I'll just give you some albums that I think are pretty accessible for new comers.
>American Black metal bands
Bands like Krallice, Wolves in the Throne Room, Deafheaven, and liturgy are all good starting points. More melodic and featuring more contempoprary influences typically along post rock lines.
>Classic Black metal
Burzum's Filosfem is considered the magnum opus of the genre. I recommend looking into the history behind it. IT has all the typical qualities in black metal. Arpeggiated minor patterns, screeched vocals, lofi production quality. Personally, I think it's beautiful.
Also look into Varg's dark ambient work.
>Mayhem De mysteriis Dom Sathanas
At first I acctually found this album boring and lacking substance. On repeat listens though I think it just pioneered many staples in metal today.

Mayhem's current vocalist has actually worked with Sunn O))) and some of their releases lean into black metal. I'd recommend Monoliths and Dimensions as the starting point.

I still kek at that video. I really like the way black metal sounds but the way the artists act is really edgy and cheesy.

Black metal may not be the most accessible genre for someone who it just getting into metal in general.

Start with latest Darkthrone albums and then slowly descent into the earlier ones. The latest are cachy af hell as they are very heavy/punk influenced ones, and the further in the past the more and mor black metal elements become evident.
Or just start with some easy listening black metal like Dimmu Borgir then move to more raw material.
Or just listen to your post punk, I don't get all this /mu/ threads like "I hate jazz(punk, metal, vegan grindcore etc) and I don't know anything about it, where should I start." The answer is, you shouldn't. Anyway youtube is your friend.

Sunbather - Deafheaven is a good shoegaze / black metal album for people who don't like black metal. Just speaking from personal experience.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YgQRRI9goFg Emperor...just...eventually you might get to them after things such as Darkthrone and Immortal. Emperor is my personal favorite, and this is my favorite song by them haha.
