Benefit is the best thing in rap right now and in the last 10 years.

/mu/ is really autistic when discussing rap, they think it died after 2000.

The worst time of hip hop was 2000-2009, because there was only giants like Lil Wayne and Kanye West, no room for others.

Anyway some that are the best include Drake, Jay Electronica, Danny Brown and Killer Mike

Some of the worst now are Jay Z, Freddie Gibbs (Outside of Pinata his records are shit.) and to some extent J Cole.

Hip hop is great now.

But no, Earl isn't the best. I'd have to say Jay Elec is

Doris just wasn't that strong an album. It had its great tracks, but it's not consistent.
He's a brilliant lyricist and a great stage presence but he's not the "best thing", not yet.

My biggest gripe with Earl Sweatshirt is that he's talented at rhyming and even sounds like a mini-DOOM at moments - but he just doesn't seem to have much of a meaning/theme/message.
He's one of those guys that sounds like he's just rhyming words.

[OP] well since this thread's already big enough i'll toss out some sense and say yes while earl isn't exactly "rap god" he's coming pretty close to being recognized as being a really talented MC, among some others i think Mac Miller's great, DOOM's great, Hodgy. Domo, and Tyler are good too. but if /mu/ thinks rap and hip hop's gone to shit then y'all should really peep the underground, they're saving the ever loving fuck out of what the radio's shitting out now
