The Smiths have absolutely no musical merit whatsoever. They are a boy band for teenage girls with a non-threatening asexual prancing fairy on stage singing about metaphorically fucking his imaginary genderless lover so parents won't get worked up over it. One of the great mysteries in modern music is how this band ended up being so highly regarded over time and being hailed as genius songwriters, when in reality, there is more sophistication involved in a television commercial jingle than a Smiths song.
