Makes me sad, I'm approaching endgame territory.

I really want SR-007BL but they're the rarerest and more expensive of the SR-007s and at that point I might as well just invest it purely in speakers.

Depends on genre and mood i guess?
whenever listening to rock-ish tracks or when I crave for dem impact I grab my trusty sony 7506'.

for classic sessions i like my Q701, while for gaming, movies etc and loong long days/sessions ill just grab my ma900 (which are my favourites).

The soundstaging on the ma900 is really something else compared even to what i 've heard of the AKG K6xx and K/Q7xx family and audio technica ADxxx phones. also, GOD TIER comfort, they are incredibly light and have a perfect amount of clamp.

Tried the DT7/8/9'ss and dont exactly like the v-ish signature. also, coming from really open cans like AKG's and the ma900, anything with more bass then my 7506 sounds like a bass cannon :/

feeding most of my stuff with an Aune T1 with gold lion tubes. planning to get a odac+o2 combo this summer, probably.

>>46650362
not OP but, eh, the pads are quite stiff in the beginning, so you may or may not have problems with a proper seal on your head. an improper seal will result in weak bass response and shrill highs. also, personally, I dislike the audio technica style 'wing'-styled headband, all the weight is focused on two small spots on your head. the 681 EVO is a much better buy imho

>>46650490
hm, nevery really tried electrostats really, especially since they are so prohibitively expensive here in the Netherlands. though they are probably the next natural step in my headphone journey? It'll either be an endgame dynamic like the hd800 or T70 or an entry level stax... what would you say?

Yes, definitely. Especially if you like the airiness of AKGs and the MA900. They're kinda hard to describe without hearing them, the detail is unprecedented and unlike "detailed" dynamics it comes across as being really effortless and natural instead of harsh. Also if you pick up used they're actually fairly affordable. I got mine for $280 USD including shipping and import fees. Check out http://buyee.jp/ and just watch there and sometimes you can get really great deals.

Look at stuff within your price range that starts with SRS like the SRS-2050 or the SRS-2020 or the SR-2170 as those are entry setups.

Quick tip
SRS = Full setup so Earspeaker + Electrostat Amp, usually the cheapest option

SR = Earspeaker only

SRM = Electrostat Amp

Read through this wiki and it'll help a bit with figuring out how the lineup works http://wiki.faust3d.com/wiki/index.php?title=Stax_Earspeakers_Overview

That's interesting. The only STAX I've heard is the SR-009 in a not so flattering setup in an audio meet here. Despite it though, "effortless" is the word that best describes what I heard. SImply the best experience from headphones I've gotten. I'm the dude with the HE-400s. I actually just got them recently (barely) used for like 220 USD and I'm loving them so far. I think they're better than the HD650/DT880 (haven't heard the K701). They're efficient too so my old Fiio E7 has enough power for them. Not too sure about the headroom myself.

Yeah, before I upgrade any more I need to move to an area with audio meets. But yeah, in /hpg/ I've gotten called out a lot for using buzzwords by describing them as effortless which I totally understand because it makes no sense until you actually listen to electrostats, but once you do that's just the easiest way to describe them.

grado sr80i. im poor but they give a really nice sound in my opinion. every other pair of headphones i've tried in the price range sound like they've ridiculously over done the bass to compensate for bad quality. that said i'm going to make some minor modifications soon to squeeze just a teensy bit more bass out of them. the sr80i's have a felt screen in the cups with perforations that you can punch out to let some more bass through. if you buy the next model up they do it for you at the factory for another $50 or something.
