Do you consider musicians to be "artists," anon?

Does a musician have to make really deep and thought-provoking music to be making art?
Can a musician make normal, good music and still call it art?
Can a musician make shitty music and call it art?

> Do you consider musicians to be "artists," anon?

Definitely not all.

> Does a musician have to make really deep and thought-provoking music to be making art?

Yes, usually.

> Can a musician make normal, good music and still call it art?

In some cases yes. In most cases it's a boring unoriginal copy from another piece of art

> Can a musician make shitty music and call it art?

Nope, that's what Americans do, mostly Jews.

>> No.46242195

usually when someone thinks they're making art they are

>> No.46242211

For something to qualify as art it must proceed from a genuine art impulse. Because this is information known only to the artist, you will never know whether or not their product is truly art.

No
>Can a musician make normal, good music and still call it art?
Yeah

Yeah

Art is not some sort of compliment for creative outspills of emotion on instruments, it's just a way to describe things like music, painting, film, etc. All music is art, whether you enjoy and value it, or not.

>> No.46242289

All musicians are technically artists

All music is art

>> No.46242305

being able to play an instrument =/= being able to COMPOSE music

a songwriter in a band is a musical artist, despite quality.

a guy who plays an instrument for his or her own enjoyment and does not compose is a musician but not an artist

It seems that opinions on this vary widely, even among mutants.

>Do you consider musicians to be "artists," anon?

Music is an art form, so yes.
>Does a musician have to make really deep and thought-provoking music to be making art?
>Can a musician make normal, good music and still call it art?
>Can a musician make shitty music and call it art?

Art isn't a word used to describe quality. Anyone who does use it that way is probably a snob. Shitty art is still art.

>> No.46242465

Music is an art form, so all musicians are artists and all music is art no matter how shitty or perfect it is.

existence is art. ergo, music is art.

That's like saying someone who paints portraits isn't an artist because he didn't invent the person he's painting

>> No.46242527

All music composers are artists.

Does it mean that they are somehow special or impressive because of that? No, artists can come in a wide variety of quality, ranging from utter shit to amazing.

>> No.46242532

If you can play guitar for example, and you just sometimes play other songs that have already been written, like casually, I wouldn't consider you an artist. You didn't create anything. You're a musician but not an artist.

If you create ANYTHING original, even if it's shit, you're an artist.

If you improvise, you're an artist.

But if you learn guitar and just play sublime songs on it or something, you're not an artist, you're just a douche.

So should I consider myself an artist because I write and record music with my guitar (and occasionally band)?
It seems pretentious so I always backed away from that.

I don't know why you'd be worried
