There are some things, autismo, that you can't be "best" at. What's more, trying to be the best in any specific field is a null attempt- there is or was universally someone better. Purifying an art is a useless act, as you're merely becoming the olympian-style stereotype of that thing and nothing else. Nobody knows the world-series guitarists or drummers (except those trying to take their place), but plenty of people know Hendrix and Page. Making something interesting, pleasant or useful out of multiple disciplines is a worthwhile pursuit, while trying to master anything is invalid and foolish. What's more, nobody gets to be the best without dedicating their life to that thing. Nobody's got gold medals in every olympian sport and can challenge an intellectual on their field. You need to focus on one thing alone to beat those that put less in, and thus being the best at everything is blatantly stupid.
What's even more blatantly stupid is trying to be "good" at things that there is obviously no competitive element to. You can't be "the best at relaxing" because it's binary- you either relax, or you don't. Nobody goes "Wow, look how relaxed that guy is! (I envy his skill at relaxing so)".
What's even *MORE* stupid is that I wrote this whole dumbass spiel because someone was wrong on the internet. But it will give me great pleasure to return to see your inadequate response. |
