I can safely assume a lot of people know of this band thanks to P4K, but I have to ask /mu/, is Perfect Pussy's debut album actually great?

I'll go ahead and link my opinion in a review I did on OurVinyl. http://blog.ourvinyl.tv/perfect-pussys-say-yes-love-album-review/

>> No.45491557

I honestly liked it, but if they blow up through P4K I may have to reconsider.

>> No.45491608

P4K are in the winter of their decline. They're no longer the tryhard-yet-hilarious-and-charming elitist music site they once were.

They are desperately trying to "discover" the best new thing. However, it's painfully obvious that they're grasping for straws. They've become so conservative with their reviews that they're now constantly tossing out middling 7.0-8.0 scores to anythinvg that may or may not end up being big.

See Death Grips - P4K totally fucked up when they didn't hype them up from the start. Now they're trying to recuperate byhyping up shit bands like Perfect Pussy, branching out into niche reviews for certain metal/emo albums, and tossing glowing reviews to bands that they can put on the P4K festival roster

I'm not privy to punk or noise rock, so my review might not be particularly useful. However, I did enjoy it quite a bit. I'd like to listen to it again with a lyrics sheet in front of me.

I really hate the singer. She pretty much ruins the band for me.

I met her after a Perfect Pussy show last week and she was one of the nicest musicians I've met. Really astute and appreciative, I was pretty surprised.

Why's that?

this

i haven't listened to say yes to love, only the project they have up on bandcamp but i was really put off by the vocals too. it's the same reason i dislike thee oh sees

They already did.

I only liked the last two tracks.

>disliking thee oh sees for the singer

I disagree completely

>>45491680
That's really interesting, actually. And nice to hear.

I barely ever read pitchfork, even less know then a few years ago, but Im pretty sure they have been doing metal and emo reviews for a long time

>> No.45491802

>>45491717
I'm just basing that off of the 285 stuff and the inevitable future Pitchfork shows. There's still a chance for them to actually be DIY but I really doubt it.

i really tried to like her man

i downloaded a decent amount of stuff by thee oh sees because i really liked toe cutter thumb buster

her vocals get so tiring for me, i can't make it through an entire project.

the second half of this song is a good example of what i dislike https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mZqGxkYOFY

Appearing in elle is pretty not punk. I feel the rest of that is bullshit though

>> No.45491918

I heard about them through NPR, and they were going apeshit over them. For what it's worth, they're one of the few punk bands out there with non-cringeworthy lyrics

Does he actually talk about SYtL?

>> No.45491955

>>45491923
Yeah he livetweeted it a bit.

He thought a bit of it was alright (he thought the minimal/ambient interlude was the best part) but aside from that thought its been done before and way better and its getting hype for lame reasons.

He's right about Syracuse being more of a college town than Rochester, especially since Kodak choked on its own semen.

It isn't Saratoga Springs though. It has a few neighborhoods and surrounding areas that you can compare to Saratoga but he's either exaggerating heavily or ignorant.

He's right about all of the personal attacks and the Elle stuff too.

But its kind of irrelevant.

She is young and in a punk band. Of course she is going to be into political issues. Calling her out for being 26 is just a shit argument from a jaded dude.
The stuff about finding support through internet for oppressed groups I just plain didnt get

There was a bit in Playboy about Perfect Pussy too. He posted it.

>> No.45492293

>>45492178
I think what he's saying is that if the nature of her oppression is going on the internet and finding people whom they can essentially circlejerk over how much things suck then its not really oppression
