Hip-hop in general? So it is.
>>45443131>American flag (albeit black & white)>>45443149>literally wrapped in a flagNeither of these covers give the impression that I would agree with their politics.

>>45443206Why's that?
so much better than Mecca imo
>>45443206they're not like super-patriotic albums if that's what you're worried aboutA$AP's american flag usage in particular is p. ironic
>>45443221I don't know. They seem pretty 'muh america' to me.I've not listened to their albums. Do they want to smash the state?
>implying there's a better hip-hop album
>>45443238Outkast does sometimes.Rocky has no politics, he's all fashion - the flag is iconography, nothing more.
Y'all don't even know.
>>45443253>lyricism
>>45443261>all fashionYeah, no thanks.
>>45443238You're dumb lol. Outkast did a black flag because google.com/black american flagA$AP did a black flag because of Outkast, on the song Ghetto Symphony he raps like Andre 3000 and A$AP Ferg raps like Big BoiNone of these albums have anything to do with patriotism, they're rap albums, for fucks sake.
>>45443287yeah i'm not that into Rocky for that reason - all style, no substance.if you're looking for something more in line with your politics, try the Coup.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-liNf9GEt8A
>>45443293>implying a lot of rappers don't have abysmal politics
>>45443329also unless you're 17 or live in a punk house, needing an artist to share your politics is ridiculous.
>>45443318No substance? Live Love is a solid mixtape, while Long Live is a solid album, they aren't GOAT but still fun listens.>>45443329I've never heard of an over patriotic rapper.
>>45443318I like The Coup already.I'm not entirely dismissive of non-political rappers if they're just being honest and telling their story.Fuck the fashion show though.
Yes, it's an EP but it's flawless
>>45443374Try dälek then
>>45443357I'm not saying many rappers are overly patriotic. I'm just saying political rappers could stand to read more.

>>45443436Why's that? I think Hell and Pain are shit songs but as soon as fuckin problems starts the album just goes back up and up. You're missing out on 1train, jodye, and ghetto symphony.
>>45443461Didn't know that, I'll check it out
>>45443525You might like it. It has a similarly bleak, industrial aesthetic.Sole's other stuff is good too, but less experimental.I'm seriously tired of being called a backpacker for liking this guy.I just like talented, expressive musicians from all genres.
>>45443606Yeah well, this is /mu/, you'll get called a backpacker and a fedora without a reason sometime. If you want to try some completely out there, unappreciated as fuck abstract hip hop look up Spirit Agent
Illmatic and liquid swords are my favorite hiphop albums
Not god-tier but I'm really feelin this. Oxymoron too. West coast gangsta shit
>>45443797That whole list is middle-school entry-level hip-hop taste. Dadcore hip-hop for children.
Love 40 Water. Honestly prefer it to In a Major Way. The Story, Circumstances, Record Haters, Rapper's Ball. All flames.Still haven't checked out his modern stuff though, all his new albums seem really bloated.
>>45443884they are, but it's still E-40 and he's still one of the best rappers alive.a handful of gems on all his projects.
>>45443640>Spirit AgentThis is delightful. Good lyricism.
Am I the only one who was never into OutKast? Theres something about their music I never liked. Its this annoying blend of slight experimentation with obnoxious traditionalism. It makes it sound sort of grossly organic.

It's weird, I don't think Serengeti's a particularly talented rapper but this album's a fucking masterpiece. Everything's fucking perfect; the tone, the vibe, the production, all fucking unrealEasily one of the most underrated hiphop albums of all timehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUES1wZ1KHc
rate my hip hop taste guys. or ask me about albums on it you haven't heard or something.
>>45446680Got a link to this?
Why is Madvillainy rated so highly, guys? I followed the lyrics, they mostly make no sense and Doom sounds boring as fuck. Production is dope (love Madlib) but surely that can't be it? What am I missing? I hope you can give actual reasons instead starting to call me pleb or whatever. I seriously don't see hype with this album, enlighten me with interesting opinions.
>>45446703a lot of boring shit and gay ass common
>this still hasn't been posted
>>45446815>he thinks aquemini is better than atliens
>>45443859Not the guy that posted that, but that just looks like a list of 90's hip hop, not a 'suggestion' list. And atleast a few of those albums are objectively good examples of the genre, so I don't know where ur coming from mate
>>45446839>people actually think this
>>45446794lol look at dis pleb or whatever guis!no, but I don't really get the appeal either. I haven't seen one example of why MF Doom is even a barely ok rapper, much less a great one deserving such a huge following
>>45443149not better than live love but still good
>>45446794No it's exactly that. He's objectively a shitty rapper but he has fantastic production value. I notice /mu/ has a massive boner for production value (i mean 90% of the artists I see talked about are mf doom and kanye west). Both are terrible rappers with meh-lyrics but are praised to no end. Mind you, I don't have a problem with them liking this stuff, It just depends on what you like. I tend to care more about flow and lyrical content, so these guys don't appeal to me, but if you're into production then I guess that's where it's at.
>>45447033>production valueI'd rather just listen to Madlib's own instrumentals than Madvillainy if I wanted a good production. Seriously, if you haven't listened to his beat tapes or album Shades of Blue.. what the fuck are you waiting for?
Liquid Swords mother fucker
>>45447033>DOOM>Terrible rapperWhat. Also, no one cares about doom lyrics for the same reason no one cares about Enter the 36 chambers lyrics. The lyrics arent as bad as kanye that make you cringe, they just dont have a "big message" behind
>>45447109best hip hop album of all time. i almost always skip the last track though.
>>45447092>if you haven't listened to his...album Shades of Blue.am listening. am enjoying. >>45447109>>45447140Liquid swords was dope. I hear hate for the last track alot, no love for killah priest on /mu/?
>>45446680Serengeti is a lot more talented than his relaxed-yet-not-mellow style lets on. He is able to channel immense character into his music.I like him best as Kenny Dennis I think, because he uses that character as an outlet for his flashy, humorous side.Check out Tha Grimm Teachaz, and Kenny Dennis LP if you haven't already.
>>45447245Check his beat tapes out too if you've only heard the album so far. Donuts-tier stuff really.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4xQEXpIsMg
>>45446680Also, the production is great because Jel and Odd Nosdam are both excellent.
>>45444224ur a bretty gool guy, broseph
>>45446794It's ok to not like DOOM, he's definitely not for everyone. I enjoy his lyrics and in my opinions they do make sense. The production is radical, as you said. I love him, personally. Paints a colorful story and is quite inventive. If you know more inventive rappers, please tell me. that'd be real cool of you
>>45446578>better than the low end theorynigga u better be right cos ima download this right now i mean buy it legally of course
>>45448000this is his worst album m8not bad tho to me it's kinda nostalgic in a way, i remember being really excited about new OF releases and shit
>>45448045fuck ik. I remember back I didnt really listen to hip hop and Goblin came out and I thought it GOAT
>>45443149fucking over hyped hipster shitin two years noone will even remember it
>>45446794I tought that at first too, but after a couple of listens I found myself literally mesmerised by his monotone delivery. I really enjoy his lyricism as well, but I do see why would it seem like it makes no sense. There are actually several small stories and tangents on pretty much every track on Madvillainy, that mostly have nothing to do with each other, but by themselves they do make sense. There's no theme other than there's a villain (a mad one nonetheless), and he does weird, and only rarely villainous things. But you're by no means a pleb for not liking it. You don't have to like /mu/core, just don't be a bitch about it (fyi, you're not being a bitch about it right now.
>>45448159damn dude when i heard yonkers the first time. god damn that was something. goblin has some great tracks, but filler shit like windows ruin the album for me.

>>45448443Good to know. Care to explain?
what did you guys think of pic related? I really liked it when I listened to it, but I struggle to remember any of the songs apart from mandela and basquiat

Not a flawless album, but the throwback feel to classic hiphop is really tight. I don't think he's made any music that compares to this mixtape since.
>>45451184i don't really get the appeal of thisI mean it's kinda good but pretty generic imo, yes they try so hard to sound like it's from the 90s, but generic 90s shit.
>>45450900the smackdown or any project pat album>*mystic stylez and chapter 1: the end are obvously better you moron
>>45446794DOOM is a very inaccessible rapper, so don't be too perturbed if you can't get into him. If I had to describe how he's a good rapper, i'd say that it's his way of effortlessly using word play, figurative speech, and just the English language in general. There's some lines in most of his albums where he'll say something like "i wrote this verse in BC DC O-Section" or "I wrote this off of some girls" whilst also making metaphors that can be taken at face value as much as they can be taken for their actual meaning. (see: Kookies, where he compares nearly every type of porn to a cookie of some sort)He's just a very good poet, very good with words. I do agree that he's hard to get into, even with my stan showing.
