I know plenty of you guys are big audiophiles, so I was wondering if you could give some advice to a newcomer...
Looking to buy my first record player, I have a budget of about £110 ($180), so I know I can't be too picky, but so far, I've seen this which seems reasonable, though a little gimmicky with the design, but that doesn't really matter too much.

Mostly, I've been looking at reviews and affordability, but is there something else technical I should be looking at if I want to get a decent player?

>>45371992 This shit right here is good for basics. When I started out I used that alongside googling shit I found to see what audiokarma had to say. Came across an MCS 6603 (rebranded Technics SL-D2) for $30. Beats the shit out of most stuff you'll find new plus the extra cash let's you spend your money on the stuff that's more important for making your setup sound good, like a cartridge, speakers, and preamp/amp or receivers.
You don't find anything around you used an LP120 is a safe but boring choice (don't bother with the LP60), but I wouldn't buy one, especially cause they're Chinese made.
Here's my current project, a Dual 1219 that's in working condition, but just needs some tlc on the inside. So far I've only replaced the old RCA cables, but I'm currently saving up for the grease kit. |
