I know plenty of you guys are big audiophiles, so I was wondering if you could give some advice to a newcomer...
Looking to buy my first record player, I have a budget of about £110 ($180), so I know I can't be too picky, but so far, I've seen this which seems reasonable, though a little gimmicky with the design, but that doesn't really matter too much.

Mostly, I've been looking at reviews and affordability, but is there something else technical I should be looking at if I want to get a decent player?

Just get an Audio-Technica LP60

>> No.45371879

>£110
Don't buy anything yet. You're better off saving up.

>> No.45371936

Don't get anything that has speakers attached to it, or that doesn't have a counter-weight on the tone arm.

>>45371843
What are the pros of it?
>>45371879
I'm thinking about that, perhaps. However, this Wooden one is reduced from £200, so it's tempting.

Is that good, nigga?

If you already have a receiver and speakers, get a U-Turn Audio turntable

it's cheap and doesn't damage records

this. keep saving. about £200 and you could get a decent system (record player, amp, speakers) if you bought 2ndhand.
its not something you can do on the cheap. that thing you posted will sound TERRIBLE
and if youre that short of cash youre not going to be able to afford to buy many records anyway

Audio-Technica LP120 is better, has counterweight

>> No.45372042

OP, that thing is junk, sorry to tell you. I would look on Craigslist/ebay and try to find a vintage turntable, that's your best chance to get something really good for that price. Don't get any Crosley shit or any 5-in-1 junk, you will regret it.

The U-Turn Orbit is a decent new player and it's right in your price range, it's $179.

>>45371843
I wouldn't recommend this either, it's certainly better but you'll want to upgrade from this at some point for sure. The LP-120 is probably a better bet if anything.

>>45371936
I'm wondering if it's possible to get a separate amplifier at a later date, I'd only ever listen with headphones anyway.
>>45371992
Thanks man.
>>45372033
Seen lots of praise for this, I'll probably get this instead

Thanks a lot guys, this was really helpful!

I had this one before I got my Rega RP1.
This is shit. It will damage your records, and it always skips, even if the record has no sign of warping.

>>45372042
Would you say the U-Turn Orbit or the LP-120 is the better option?

>> No.45375581

>>45373435
The AT-LP120 is the better option but it's more expensive than the U-Turn Orbit.

>> No.45375618

Don't get an all in one unit, they're terrible. Get yourself a proper turntable that has an adjustable counterweight on the end of the tonearm. Without an adjustable counterweight the full weight of the tonearm is pushed down on your records and wears out the grooves 10x faster.

Religiously follow the tips this pic gives you, OP.

>> No.45375671

Get a used Audio Technica QD2. Its what I use. Its great, and you should be able to get one for under 100 dollars.

>> No.45376042

>>45371808
don't buy that one. if you are looking for a record player, buy just a record player. this one has so many other things in it and lowers the quality of the record player.

>>45372033
this one is great, i know from experience. i own one.

Congrats on hopping onto the bandwagon. It'll be an expensive and possibly fun ride but you gotta do your own research, bub.

This shit right here is good for basics. When I started out I used that alongside googling shit I found to see what audiokarma had to say. Came across an MCS 6603 (rebranded Technics SL-D2) for $30. Beats the shit out of most stuff you'll find new plus the extra cash let's you spend your money on the stuff that's more important for making your setup sound good, like a cartridge, speakers, and preamp/amp or receivers.

You don't find anything around you used an LP120 is a safe but boring choice (don't bother with the LP60), but I wouldn't buy one, especially cause they're Chinese made.

Here's my current project, a Dual 1219 that's in working condition, but just needs some tlc on the inside. So far I've only replaced the old RCA cables, but I'm currently saving up for the grease kit.
