There's more to his music than merely pleasing melodies.

Anglos probably have the worst taste in Europe. Everything about them is awkward, forced, self-conscious, "efficient." And the way they approach art is no different. Everything is balanced, everything is restrained, nothing is "too much." England is Protestantism exemplified. No where in the West is every aspect of life held to be so reprehensible, so in need for restraining and drying, so unruly that mankind's supposed great force of efficiency ought to keep desire and excess in order. They may be the most unmusical race in existence. And likewise some of the worst philosophical ideas have been birthed from this excess-chastisement: the utilitarians, Hume, Locke, and Hobbes. The only thing England has is literature, but Shakespeare, with the exception of Lear, Hamlet, and Macbeth, is a child's toy when compared to Dante.

Freiburger Barockorchester under Gottfried von der Goltz - Concerti Grossi Op. 1
Concentus Hungaricus - Pietro Antonio Locatelli - XII CONCERTI GROSSI Op. I Nos. 1-6
Mainz Chamber Orchestra & Suzanne Lautenbacher under Günter Kehr - The Art of the Violin, Vol.1
There's also some other stuff with some of his works with a bunch of other composers I'm too lazy to copy paste and L'arte del violino which I think you already have.

Not as mean as those poor Indians, Scottish, Irish, Welsh, Native Americans, the Africans, Polynesians, et al. Everyone, of course, except the Jews.

All of those were probably necessary exterminations, but let's not get into who is mean and who is nice :~)

I think I have had to play it so many times, that I was sick of it until just recently. I came around when I heard a recording of Frank Morelli playing it live at one of the yearly IDRS conventions. I actually started laughing during the 3rd movement, he played it so convincingly. Since then, I've been thinking about retrying it, but I'd have to unlearn all the bad habits I had when I learned it as a junior in high school, which would be a daunting task. I know I'll have to because its such a standard in our rep. All in all it is an awesome piece, and it just oozes German romantic opera when you play it right.
