Depends what you find depressing though. Personally I find indie pop like Paralytic Stalks to be extremely depressing, the upbeat sound just amplifies the emotion of putting on a happy persona for strangers that'll never care about you anyways.

i agree completely, but i think he did a better job at, not hiding, but channeling his depression into his music. Sure, The Last Three Human Words, It Must Be Raining (Hell, that whole album), and fuckin' Hold On Magnolia make me tear up every time, but it's like...it's like you can hear how hard he's fighting. From our perspective--knowing how it all ended--i feel like that does end up being pretty fucking sad, but his actual musical catalogue is a lot less sad than his life was.

I think that's the point...Jamie Stewart expresses this "disturbed" feeling some people these days can understand...he isn't even actually singing...which is why Xiu Xiu's sound is so unique...he has a lot of experience in theatre, so its a bit of an act...but what musician doesn't play a part?
