So I was just listening to Hymn of Freedom by Oscar Peterson:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpCJ3fqtswsAnd I couldn't help but notice it's very similar to Descendant of Shinoby by Nobuo Uematsu (Yuffies theme in FF7):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck4RVggHTO4Do you think Noboue was influenced by the song? Or is it just a coincidence?

Soundtrack music is cannibalistic by nature, it relies largely on clichés to evoke in the audience the intended response to the images and ideas it accompanies. If something is copied it is very often intentional. In this case, though, I'm not even sure what the similarities are supposed to be. Could you point to specific examples where you think Uematsu was influenced by or even copied from Peterson?
>>44853317Final Fantasy track from 10:05, beginning of hymn, but I guess it's kinda hard to point out.The final fantasy track is really ingrained in my brain and when I heard the hymn for the first time, I immediately thought "this sounds a lot like that one track in final fantasy". I dunno, maybe it's just me. They aren't one on one or anything but I rarely immediately think two tracks are alike but in this case I did.
>>44853429I can kind of see it, but I think it's too generic a chord sequence to be much other than a coincidence.
