Okay, stop hating on Fedoras, when half of you, don't even know what an actual Fedora really is. There is a FINE line between an actual Fedora and a cheap knock off you buy at Walmart, let alone a TRILBY which doesn't look good on ANYONE. A real authentic, well made, tailored Fedora can make almost anyone look good, but what most people don't keep in mind is that a Fedora is a nice, clean, neat hat.. and that kind of hat demands a nice, clean, neat appearance. No neckbeards, no tacky t-shirts, no stone washed jeans with holes in them, in fact very rarely will facial hair work unless it is also trimmed and styled in a nice, stylish way. The exception to the facial hair rule would be a manly stubble like Indiana Jones, which is very rare to actually pull off unless you have a strong jaw like Harrison Ford, and note also that Indy's fedora is a wide brim style in dust/brown color which is more in spirit to a cowboy hat, which fits his personality, rather than a casual or dress Fedora.
And no people, you don't have to look like Brad Pitt to pull off the Fedora look, you don't even have to be super fit. There is nothing wrong with being a chubby guy and wearing a good Fedora, especially if you dress accordingly. Comedy genius Lou Costello quite often wore Fedoras and a slew of other hats like Bowler Hats and Cuban Summer Hats, and he's one of the most iconic "chubby" characters in comedy history. Any number of characters from The Godfather such as Luca Brasi, Clemenza (as played by Richard S. Castellano), and even Marlon Brando to some degree (very slight double chin and very big jowls) all were portly fellows who wore Fedoras in that picture and others and are among some of the most iconic characters in cinema.
The rule of thumb is to buy a wear a NICE Fedora, dress nice with it (even if it's a casual sports coat), and if you think a Trilby looks good on ANYONE then you shouldn't even be looking for Fedoras in the first place.
